Yeah, I can picture it:
Me: I just did the marathon a few months ago
Other person: Oh yes, the London marathon?
Me: No, THE marathon. From Marathon to Athens. But without the death, as you may have noticed.
Yep, the phrase 'Dont shoot the messenger' definitely didnt originate there - there was no need!:p
The Windsor Castle race (Olympics 1908) just added the last 385 yds because Vicky wanted to see the start and couldnt be ar$-ed moving a few yards to see it!:rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

The whole story is highly dubious. Highly unlikely that a professional soldier of the time would have completed the run and then died! A good story none the less!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Evening all
I thought I'd report back in even though, as a newbie, I will admit to feeling in awe (if not a little intimidated, she whispers) by all your achievements.
I settled for a 30 minute brisk walk, in my lunchbreak, today and felt no ill effects of my run yesterday. I'm hoping to fit in another 30 minute run tomorrow and will see how that feels.
I listen to MTV Dance, very loudly, when on the treadmill as the beat seems to suit my stride. Can't wait until I pluck up the courage to run outdoors though!!:eek:2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

There is nothing to be in awe of or intimidated by (except maybe Idio's knowledge of gadgets!:p ).
Walk, walk, walk as much as possible and lay the foundations for feeling strong when you do develop the muscles to cope with regular running.
One step at a time has never been truer, there's no rush...just enjoy being out in the fresh air and letting the improvements happen at their own pace.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thanks for the words of encouragement Rich.
I suppose, if I'm honest, I feel a bit of a fraud posting on here when I'm only just starting out.
I will keep posting though as I'm sure it will help me be more disciplined and reading about everyone's achievements makes me even more determined to achieve my goal entering a race and running outside.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Hi guys!! All this talk of races reminds me of how much we have all achieved already!
I am tentatively hoping to go for a short run tomorrow evening - my feet aren't healed completely yet, but they are certainly getting there. One feels better than the other, so I could hop roundSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. As discussed yesterday - we all feel like frauds most of the time - I still see people running and think wow I wish I was that good/fast/neat etc - but in reality I am runner - you are as soon as you go running - even if you're a beginner
(I still buy my trainers online because running shops intimidate me so I can hardly talk)
