I suppose, if I'm honest, I feel a bit of a fraud posting on here when I'm only just starting out.
I will keep posting though as I'm sure it will help me be more disciplined and reading about everyone's achievements makes me even more determined to achieve my goal entering a race and running outside.
We all have to start somewhere and I can think of worse places than getting inspiration and encouragement from this thread.
Good luck and yes if you are out there running and have a goal you are a runner. I mentioned on this last thread that even if you are walk/running in the beginning you are still a runner and puts you ahead of most of the sedentary population

Well, if you go back to September on the old thread all I was posting was walks - I wasn't capable of anything else anyway, being 4 stone heavier than now.
So if you're a fraud, I certainly was......:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi there, my racing plans are as follows:
25th January: Chernobyl 10k
1st March: Haweswater Half Marathon
15th March: Trimpell 20
28th March: Coniston 14
10th May: Prague Marathon
Unfortunately my plans for intervals today have gone out of the window. DS is poorly so he hasn't been to school. I haven't been to work either and as there will be no football training, there will be no intervals.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Sorry my last post looks a bit out of place. I typed it out then DS needed help with homework, then I just posted it.
ANYWAY, where is there a definition of a 'real' runner? Isn't it just someone who runs? As far as I know, you don't have to run at a certain pace, or for a certain distance to be classed as a proper runner. Don't worry about being a fraud. There is no such thing in running.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

(I still buy my trainers online because running shops intimidate me so I can hardly talk
)
Becky, I can hardly believe that running shops intimidate you! Only a couple of posts ago you were telling us that you have exceeded 40 miles last week and maybe 50 this week. You have just done a 10 mile race. Yesterday you were giving newbies the low-down on microscopic muscle tears and the disadvantages of the run-walk method. You know soooo much about running now, so.....

The thing about running is that there are as many different goals and reasons for running as there are runners themselves. Take my running club for example there are those who it take it all very seriously and would consider it a failure if they did not get in the first half dozen of every race they entered. There are those who are social runners, who will run and chat and enjoy a drink at the bar afterwards. Others prime goal is to lose weight/keep fit. Still others see it as way to contribute to charity. Some attend the club regularly, others intermittently. Everyone has their reasons, some having high goals others much more modest but all see themselves as runners“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0

Hello all you fit people!
What a really motivating thread. I followed it last year but unfortunately didn't actually do anything to participate in it so here I am in 2009. I need to get started but I have a question:
I can't get to a running shop for a few weeks to buy proper running shoes. In the meantime I am planning to use my treadmill to get moving, otherwise I shall just use the lack of shoes as an excuse to do nothing. Would I be ok to use normal trainers for this short period?
Many thanks.

I know but every time I go in one I get treated like a silly girly - probably because I dont 'look' like "a runner" - and get talked down to - so I've given up going now which is a bit sad of me :rolleyes::rolleyes:, but hey its all cheaper online anyway0
