So go on what was the winning guys time??

The results have just been published and the winning guy's time was .....15:36!!!!!!! (5:02/mile)

Not only is he an international triathlete, he's the U23 World Champion and came 12th in the Beijing Olympics - Alistair Brownlee!

That actually makes it the fastest race of all time by quite some margin out of the 71 runnings of the event so far!

I think he pulled the rest of us round to fast times - 20 runners under 20 minutes and, out of those, 10 PBs!

Hence the reason why I'm more than delighted with 14th place in that sort of company!:D :D

    Thanks, evab!!!

20k (12.5 miles by my garmin) done in 2 hrs 11.31 - 10.31 a mile average, so spot on really.

It was cold, wet, running round "undulating" (which means long drawn out hills with suprisingly few downward elements) country lanes, with the wind blowing a gale across the fields.

I can't say I enjoyed it - it was one of my Dad's races so there were lots of ghosts around, but I did it. Dissolved with the emotion of it all as I crossed the line, but it is another 12+ miles under my belt.

Off for a much needed bath now.

well done everyone for all that excellent running. Felt much better yesterday and thought I Would be great for a run this morning. Woke up and feel like I have been run over with a bus...so skipped running for fear I will make things worse and put myself out for a week and went and had a nice sunday pub lunch :)

Hypno know how you feel seeing everyone else doing all those miles and having to sit on the sidelines and watch.
Miles are starting to pick up this week and only having thurs as a rest day.

Rich super fast run there, well done and pat on the back!

Hi Sallyx - the pub lunch definitely sounds the way to go!

I have finally been to have my feet/trainers looked at, having got yet more blisters after today's run.

So.......no running this coming week. I have to soak my feet in salt water twice a day and apply surgical spirits to the whole area 3 times a day.

Then, when it has hardened up, I have to put my insoles out of my old trainers into my new trainers, and see how that feels. Then I have to go back to the guy and see whether it is the shoe itself, the insoles, or whatever.

So, I am mighty cheesed off - I know I need to get my feet sorted, and that running miles on sore feet will eventually get the better of me, but even so - I want to run, and I can't for a few days.

Rich - oh man of many knowledgeable things........what do I do this week - I am well in other respects, so could either walk (which doesn't aggrevate the blisters because I can wear other shoes, or concentrate on core work, or something. I can't cycle, but I do have a rowing machine.

Only 10 weeks to go........I just hope I get fixed in time to make a good attempt at the 26 miles.

what a nightmare hypno...I think you have to just get your mind around the fact you need to have a week off to get your feet sorted. If you don't do it now its going to weeks of having painful feet and as the mileage cranks up you will really suffer or worst of all not be able to do LM. Time off now is better in the long run. If you can walk then walk as much mileage as possible and then maybe get some swimming in for aerobic exercise??

    So frustrating isn't it

It IS frustrating. So so frustrating. There are only 10 weeks to go, and I am away for one of them, resting for the last week, and now out for another week, so only have a maximum of 7 weeks training available to me.

On the other hand, If those 7 weeks are pain free, then surely they will be 7 more productive weeks.

Also, when I did LM before, I had not put half as much effort in as I have done this time round. I got round before, and I will get round again......but maybe my 4:30 aim will have to wait until next year.

Hopefully you will be back running in the next couple of days, Sallyx - and you are well on target so far, aren't you?

  • Hypno, if walking doesn't aggravate the blisters then, as Sally suggests, do as much of it as you can. It will all help build your oxygen carrying capacity and muscle endurance - so very beneficial.

However, I do like Sally's alternative training method of pub lunches galore!:D

Ukevas - At 8:30ish/mile you're really starting to get some fitness back there!:D
