  • Ignore what other people are doing. If you were to do anything close to 1-45, or 1-50, next week for the Brighton half, then that would mean you just needed to improve by 15-20 secs/mile in 9 weeks. That is a walk in the park - so you can expect quite a bit more improvement than that to give you a cushion for the race. And even if you miss 3-30 it aint going to be by a long way, so for a first marathon it's going to be a good result come what may! You'll definitely beat my first marathon time of 4-12 anyway.

So are you going too :D:D, now thats going to feel good isnt it!!
  • Another thing you might have noted, Becky, on the RW thread is that in the 3-30 thread most of the talk is about the times they have done for their long runs. Go to the sub 3hr thread and most of the talk is of their interval times, very little mention of the long runs except for the distances done.

And that is the telling difference!

    Well you should!

It was spending time with 2-15 runners that made me think 3-30 was beatable, and then that 3-15 was beatable, and then 3-00 and so on.........you may as well learn from the best!:D :D

As an example of how you can get mislead, if you read the 4 and 5 hour threads there are people who think you should cut chocolate out of your diet, and then on the elite thread there's Mike Gratton talking of stuffing himself with Mars Bars constantly on his way to training for a 2-09 marathon to win London.

No it doesnt equal that...try this:
    http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=1681

4 hours 15 mins :D:D - obviously you'd have to train up to the distance but that gives you an idea of what you an idea what you could achieve

Or google race predictor - there are others that are a bit more lenient :D
