Hi all - now got a nice pain-free hip after getting a cortisone injection today. Turns out I do have bursitis and an inflamed fluid sac on the hip. Within about 4 hours of having it, thee was no pain anymore- an this from last night where my left leg wouldn't even move!
Sooooo, looks like I won't be doing any running for another month or so.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Thats bad news, BGB, although at least the pain can be treated.
Is it curable or likely to recur?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Curable thankfully otherwise I'd feel old before my time! I've been told I'll hurt a little tomorrow when the local anaesthetic wears off and I can feel the injection site. I've got so many painkillers and anti-inflammatories though, I know I should be able to sleep tonight.
Last night was agony - there was no comfortable position to lie in. Agony. Yet today it feels totally normal, even if I myself feel a it groggy.
I love my food, so I really need exercise to make sure my weight stays reasonable. This is a bit of a kick in the teeth, but I'm hoping it makes the running even more enjoyable when I'm out again.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

The body as a running machine needs fuel and the appetite is the mechanism for signalling what food is required, and it is an expert at doing so.
Sometimes it will crave the most unusual things, such as a tomato or some junk food...but it will have its reasons. Top athletes dont pay a lot of attention to what they eat in general, they just have staple foods such as cereals and other carbs which they eat as routine and the rest is pretty much what the appetite wants.
Most people don't eat to their appetite, they eat to timed meals or out of habit and therefore dont really ever get tuned into what the body wants.
As always though, if weight loss is the key focus the emphasis should be on walking not running.
The idea of training for a marathon and a low carb diet is akin to putting poor grade petrol into a car - performance will be much worse.
Rich/Beertins just for the record I have no intensions of going on any kind of diet as such and certainly wouldn't be considering a low carb diet. I was just kind of interested on how the body would cope with such and what effects it would have. Of course I would like to loose weight but eating a healthy balanced diet is far more important to me that loosing a stone. Its the custard thats doing it im sure...you and Becky mentioning it has got me addicted to it now
thanks for your info though, very interestingI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

So a month apart from your running should make it very enjoyable indeed on your return.:D

BGB - sorry to read about your hip.
As for the carb/low carb/weight thing - I generally have a very low carb diet because I have a yeast intolerance, and carbs feed the yeast and make me feel poorly in several ways.
So, by cutting out the carbs, I lose the symptoms, and as a nice side effect lose weight.
But this doesn't work with the running, and I eat all sorts, much of which I shouldn't have. As a result, my weight is also not shifting, and I have some symptoms which are not much fun, but it does mean I can put the miles in, so that is the way it will stay for the moment.
Anyway......away from food......I have done 6.5 miles in 60 mins :j
I set out to do some speed work, but the faster intervals just brought out the remnants of my cough, so instead I just picked up the pace to one that was just about comfortable but not one that made me cough.
It was wet, windy and cold, but I quite enjoyed it

Evening all!
Amazed at all your runs, well done everyone x
I had to watch hubbie run with 600 others yesterday in Llandudno, he's had a cold in the last few weeks so came in at 48.13. The first male was 30.34, humungus hill to start and snowing up the top apparently.
My back is getting better every day, lots of treatment going on so hope to be out soon.
