  • Mich - wont have been venture then, they refuse to sell CDs for you to print your own. May well have been something like Olan Mills when they where still about - was only £100 to buy the CD with 15 pics on it.
  • I GOT PHOTOS FROM VENTURE LAST DECEMBER, AND FOR TOO PHOTOS FRAMED 12"X18" THEY COST ME £1,300 EACH:eek::eek::eek:,BUT IN MY DEFENSE THEY ARE GORGEOUS & I COULD'NT RESIST, THEY ARE OF MY 2 GIRLS;);), BUT THEY ARE RIDICIOUSLY EXPENSIVE.
    • whoops!! sealed pot opened!!! for holiday stuff, £360, an i BLEW it:D
  • For £1300, i could buy a DSLR, a bunch of studio flash guns, mirrored umbrellas, big white background. Since i've already got a DSLR and an off-camera flash, i could probably bodge a mini-studio in my lounge for £500.

That is crazy money for photography. I don't know how they can justify those prices.

I recently called Venture (2 weeks ago) and asked about a single framed print 40x60in ish - so it would be a large one. £1200. I laughed and said no thanks.

Do it yourself for less than £500.
Basic DLSR with kit lens. £400 max (Nikon D40 for eg).
North facing window - Free, so you dont need extra lights.
    Large mirrors to bounce light
    White sheets - £10
Frames - £10 (wilkinsons do great, cheap ones)
Print the Image - £1 cos you'll want a few.
Digital Photo Magazine - issue 110 (dec 08) cos it tells you all how to do it! £5

Will be giving it a go myself after I have bought the white sheets next week.

I had a free session with Venture last year, we haven't picked up our free pic yet, but got a mailing on Sat from them :
You can get a preview Session which includes the art workded slide show you viewed on your day. This will allow you to email images or load them onto a digital photo frame or computer.

It doesn't say anything about printing.
The cost is £50 and the offer is only available until the end of Feb 2009, so you may be eligible for this.

The pics are extornionate, but they are great looking pics and this, although still not cheap, may well be almost worth it.

    Hope this helps.

look on the net at photographers in your area - they all have galleries on their websites and most of them do venture type photos - at a fraction of the cost. a friend of mine got beautiful family ones done - really funky shots - it was £65 for the sitting (for an hour) she got a CD to pick which shots she wanted and prices started from as little as £8 for a 7x5 photo, there was also good deals on a full album of little photos.

venture is a rip off - its the brand name you're paying for.
    DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY ;)

  • leopardlady i will get my mum to ring up about that offer (as she booked it for DD). Id love to just see the slide show as i was unable to make the viewing. Thanks :D
  • last time i went, we had the session, took a price list, and didnt go back to view the pics!! we were to scared!! lol
thing is, when you see the fab pics of your family, you just cant help it - thats why they do monthly payment plans!!
3 wonderfull kids :female::female::male:, 1 fab hubby  , 2 beautifull cats and 1 very large dog = my family!

  • Yeah - try a local wedding photographer, most will do pictures in their studion / your own home / local area of natural beauty etc for a LOT less than the larger companies - and often offer a disk of all the photographs and / or some prints. Try www.yourhandinmine.co.uk if you're in the Midlands area...
