Hi all,
Is this available in the white? One poster has mentioned blue, but I quite like the white version.
Thanks
Acer produce the unit in Brown, Black, Blue, White and Pink - although 4 Asda Stores that I contacted to get the unit - confirmed that they had only ever had Blue units shipped to them.
I think that it's fairly safe to assume that ASDA's "job lot" of these units are only in Blue and seam to have the 160gb drive installed (and not the 120gb Version).
It's a great little unit, although the Linux and applications installed are good, and will probably suit most users .... my intention will be to upgrade to XP so I can use my Vodaphone USB Dongle (as there don't appear to be any Linux drivers available), use burning apps (with my external portable write), use MS Visio and project and a handful of MS only apps I could do with ....0 -
you cannot install any XP products , think there are linux equivalents for using Ipods etc
there are a good array of Linux applications that are the same or better than the Windows equivalents
there is probably not the need to run antivirus on it but I have posted a freebie earlier in the thread
you can do all the normal things on it , edit photo's , listen to music , surf wirelessly at home and out and about ( and for free at many places if you sign up for BT Fon as you are a BT customer , free wireless via BTopenzone and any others you pick up)
you can edit doucuments , email etc with no problemEx forum ambassador

I bet you're glad i'm interested!
Why dont you need antivirus on it? Wouldn't you put norton it for web use?0 -
Sounds good Browntoa thank you for answeing, now after my creeping can I ask
Do I really need to install windows or xp? What cant I do with Linux?
IMHO - just my thoughts
Linux is a great operating system, fast to boot-up, works well on lower spec machines, less prone to virusus/spryware and has a good range of free basic applications available.
Disadvantages (and reasons why you may consider XP), many devices only have XP (or Mac OS) drivers, USB modems, CD Drives/writers, video capture, TV tuner cards etc - if you can't get a Linux driver you won't be able to use it on the Linus OS, also some applications don't have Linux equilivants, Autocad, Visio etc - you may also wish to move to XP for that reason 2.
Conclusion - moving to XP will cost money (unless you have a licence free), take time and hassle, if you don't need to change the Linux OS for the above reasons - I would stick with it .... the unit and OS is a great setup ....
