I've posts a link to installing Xp on these in post 17

Yep Browntoa, thanks for that. I have looked at the links, it would seem the're instructions for loading the Nlite version of XP (the cut down version of XP) which is ideal for those people that have the 8gb hard drive version.

For those of us that have the 120gb version theres no need to shrink down XP - therefore Butterflymum its even easier to put XP on - a lot less steps!:T

    Hi all,

Is this available in the white? One poster has mentioned blue, but I quite like the white version.
    Thanks

Remember you can share a CD or DVD across the network so installs will work over over the network from a PC, Mac or Linux computer with a drive. e.g. For XP http://ecross.mvps.org/howto/share.htm

Installing XP is not for the faint hearted and what ever OS you use make sure it is kept up to date. There are update for Firfox on and the Linux distro that ships with this netbook. If you just want web access and word processing, spreadsheets etc OpenOffice is worth a look as it is free and will read and write Microsoft Office files.

You can also create an ISO file of the disk and mount the ISO on Windows Daemon tools will do this and Linux supports ISO mounts directly.

The £10 memory upgrade looks good value thank OP and all the other posts.

If you have AOL or any wireless modem it will work with Windows, MacOS or Linux. Read the comments on the ADSA page as it mentions BT Home hubs and installing updates.

The unit is very well built, there seem to be only a few minor gripes:
    • Some people do not like the Linux Distro on the unit
    • Battery is 3 cell not 6 cell, expected at this price point
    • The touchpad buttons are on the left and right of the pad, some folk find this hard to use

    The major benefits
    • Price, great finish, very good quality, excellent low power ATOM CPU from Intel
    • Battery is 3 cell so it is very light
    • 2.5cm wider than most netbooks so the keyboard is 95% of a full size keyboard! Excellent. The unit is thinner than most netbooks so it is no more bulky.
    • No Windows installed so that reduces the cost of the unit, especially if you do not want Windows or have a licence.

If you want to test drive one pop into PCWorld or Currys etc. Also PCWorld do a price match + 10% so worth a punt ;)

If you want to check MacOs options this chart is one of the better ones, but for the faint of heart

think the idea on nlite means you can cut some of the crap out of XP and speed things up

So how do you do this as I have a PC with windows xp, or would it just be easier for me to get a usb memory stick and download that way, also use ie8 now, does this make a difference?

Anybody know how to connect more than one computer (ie. pc and netbook) to same modem or will I have to go wireless again

    Try this

    Full explanation here... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

Play.com have their own brand of 16gb flash drive for £14ish and smaller ones for less, you might find this route simper. To make a bootable USB Flash drive with a Windows installer is not a job for folk who are not technical IMHO ;)

I am on my Acer netbook now, its fantastic works just as well as a standard laptop, infact it runs a hell of a lot better then my boyfriends new laptop with Vista!!!

Word of warning though, as tempting as it is to install xp onto your linux machine don't do it! It will void your warranty and runs a risk of causing serious damage to your machine! Linux is fine to use, just takes some getting used to :D
