Word of warning though, as tempting as it is to install xp onto your linux machine don't do it! It will void your warranty and runs a risk of causing serious damage to your machine! Linux is fine to use, just takes some getting used to :D

Installing XP will not void the warranty and can't damage your machine. In any case, you are provided with an install disc for the version of Linux that comes with the machine that you can use to restore the netbook back to it's original configuration.

Hi! I'm very tempted to get one of these...assuming they are available in NI!

What I would like to know is, how easy is it to connect to the internet?
I have a wireless connection with a wireless router for my current laptop. Would this simply connect to the same one?

Also, I think the whole point is to be able to go out and about with it. How do you get onto the internet then? I've never taken my laptop out of the house...lol

And finally...Can I transfer word docs and PPT docs to this easily, and will it be able to read them?
Thanks to whoever can answer these! :o

    Hi,
Read post 44, he explains about some minor upgrades that you MAY NEED if using the isp's mentioned. He also provides links.

Yes i understand you can use word documents, as its a Linux OS, you can downlaod OPENOFFICE free of charge, which reads and writes word.
This was a huge factor for me, as i like to send incoices on the move:D

Also on the move you can either pick up WIFI internet, if you have that service with yoyr ISP, or buy a dongle and pay as you go tarrif, these can be picked up cheaply from an auction site.
Im a technophobe, so please say if im wrong;)

I am on my Acer netbook now, its fantastic works just as well as a standard laptop, infact it runs a hell of a lot better then my boyfriends new laptop with Vista!!!

can't do any damage to the unit.....it's only software

you MAY have to track down some drivers but plenty of people have done this in the past so the information is out there

Can I be a real pain and ask some qs? My laptop died and I need a cheap
    replacement.

Will this connect to bt wireless broadband?
I have microsoft office on disk can i put this in there?
Can I go on flash sites with it?

My main comp has 512mb ddr and 60gb would the netbook be a step doen or step up?

If I have xp on disk do I just put in disk drive to install?

will connect to wireless no problem

has open office pre loaded , which is a clone of the Microsoft product

    will work on Flash sites

Can only install the XP if it's not been used before (not quite as easy as just putting in the CD as you need to find the Xp drivers , is possible to do what they call a "dual boot" with both Linux and XP on the Laptop)

this has the same Ram and a bigger hard drive , will probably run a bit faster as it uses Linux
