Forgot to say - Im running the free version of AVG 8 (downloaded from https://www.download.com a safe webite!) on my Xp'd Acer as well as open office (the free version of Windows office) and I am dead chuffed with it.

In true money saving expert style - no extra money spent (I did cheat cos I had a Xp disc lying around!)

    Hi again!

I have been "playing" around with my new netbook, but I'm having a problem with downloading programs to it. For example, I downloaded Songbird to it (Itunes equivalent for Linux). But I can't find it in the programs list in the packet manager. When I click on the file in the downloads category of the file manager, there is an "extract" button (which I assume I have to do as it's a ZIP file). When I click on extract, it stops after a couple of seconds and says "an error occurred while accessing the archive".

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Have you pressed the pairing button on the Livebox? More details available on the Orange support website.

So log into the Livebox using an Ethernet cable and get it then!

Good Luck - Let us know how it goes. Really want to do mine but haven't had the courage.
    Thanks Tigert.

It worked like a charm! I followed a guide to doing it & from start to finish it took around 45 mins (that includes me suddenly realising I needed another screwdriver part way through & ransacking the house for it as well as realising I hadn't replaced the mobo quite flat enough :o).

Next step is installing XP when my new flash drive arrives .... I just can't get the gist of linplus. Really want to try out One Note on this too.

You really dont need to dismantle your Acer, (and void your warranty) I did mention this earlier on in this thread that if you go to

    http://www.eboostr.com

you can increase your memory for free there - see my earlier post for full details or there website.

Im using as we speak and it seems to be pretty good (I have a 2gb sd card installed and am running Xp)

    Hope this helps:j

Readyboost type technologies simply cache harddrive accesses in flash memory.
While flash memory is lower latency than accessing a harddrive, you can't compare it to a ram upgrade - the two are addressing almost entirely different needs.

Note. I'm not disputing that ready boost will improve performance; but it should be considered an addition, not an alternative, to adding more memory.

Query about Open Office - can I import all my outlook contacts, calendar etc into it for use while on the move ?

I've bought one of these Acers but it's still in the box - a friend has one but he only uses the WP bit of Open Office
