i just want an anti-virus programe on it0 -
i used to use another linux system(redhat) whilst at uni, so i thought i'd be fine with this system, but found it quite difficult doing stuff, initially
but taking my time, and reading the numerous guides has helped and many websites have step by step details
still gonna try to set up a dual boot with xp or maybe windows 70 -
Ive just been using my mums one we got yesterday, its really fab for the money
Linux is really very good, to my surprise.
boots in seconds, online in seconds, it got all you need for on the move computing, its so dinky yet very quick and easy to use, so whats wrong with just using Linux anyway?
I want one, I want one now.:TWe are the change we wish to see.0 -

Have a look at the Acer website, if you don't fancy roaming around the web - they appear to have selected a small, useful selection of additional apps - including :-
Personal finance/money manager
Accounting package
CD/DVD burning package
FTP application
Skype
Drawing app
Image Editor
Loads of games
File Sync app0 -
i have not read the entire thread so apologies if someone else has already covered this.
i bought this netbook this weekend, have never used linux before, and at first had issues figuring out how to download stuff - all downloads just seemed to disappear!!
however, after some googling i found this:
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/2008/07/09/aspire-one-advance-linpus-mode-hack/
if you are having issues with downloads, follow the instructions on that page. after doing so, right click on your main desktop ("home"), and you will see a lot of options. "system" will allow you to add/remove programs.
also, when downloading programs, there may be a sort of code available to you. i downloaded IE for linux and in the user guide there was a heap of code. so i right clicked on the desktop, went to "terminal", copied and pasted in the code and this installed the program (IE) for me.
anyway, basically follow that link and all will become clear. sorry, this is a particularly unsophisticated post but i dont know how else to explain it - hopefully it will help others who are as confused as i was!0 -
