    Hi again!

I have been "playing" around with my new netbook, but I'm having a problem with downloading programs to it. For example, I downloaded Songbird to it (Itunes equivalent for Linux). But I can't find it in the programs list in the packet manager. When I click on the file in the downloads category of the file manager, there is an "extract" button (which I assume I have to do as it's a ZIP file). When I click on extract, it stops after a couple of seconds and says "an error occurred while accessing the archive".

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I had the same problem this is what I did
    • Download the software
    • Select the option to extract the files and select the download directory was the place to put the extracted files
    • Then in the ACER Start page select Files, My Documents, and select the download folder
    • In the download folder you will see the installer script, just double click to run this
FYI I've switched on the 3D desktop (Compiz) and got this working on the Acer One. This provides fancy graphics, translucent windows and etc just search YouTube for some examples http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t1JCS6UBcyQ)

All seems to work really well.

It is worth updating your software before anything else. I clicked Setting, Update and all the updates installed. I also upgraded to Firefox3 from the stock Firefox2 this was via the installer on the Acer EU site.

Very please with this little PC and excellent purchase. Thanks OP!

When I went to ASDA there were none on display. I asked the saleperson on electricals and she got one from the stock room.

The BIOS etc is visible on a label on the side of the unit. Check the BIOS version to make sure you get the 160GB if you can as the price is the same. I forgot to note the BIOS version but phoned a friend to check I had the right model.

    Hope this helps.
    Seth.
  • Just a note that these are still in stock in my parents ASDA near Hull, apparently there's a big price sticker of £198 but there is a reduced to £150 if you look.... 20 left after they got one....

Thank you! But it's still not working. I've downloaded Firefox 3 as well, and I can see the script file, but I can't open it. Double-click has no effect, and "open with Installpatch" comes up with " Update does not available" (sic)...

I wouldn't get too upset, that isn't a particularly special deal.
There's better deals to be had elsewhere.
