Not sure why I'm still reading this thread as I can't get one of these as my modem doesn't work with linux. Are there any similar netbooks out there with xp etc at a good price? Or where can I buy xp - on a disk etc not a download? BTW there's going to be a £99 netbook
available from M+S and Next soon. From what I googled it'll be fairly basic but good for surfing. Still no good for me as I am stuck with my bb contract/modem for another year...0 -
I personally think there will be a price war on these things as they are becoming the new must-have trendy item. I'm waiting a while.Call me Carmine....

Quite possibly. The pricing of most netbooks seems rather bizarre at the moment, typically £250-300.
For the same or slightly more you can get a much more capable full blown laptop.
At these sorts of prices the premium being paid for the smaller form-factor is very high, too high IMO.
That's why I think this Acer is a fantastic bargain - it's got all the hardware of it's netbook competitors, but at half the price of a full blown laptop you arn't paying a premium for the smaller form-factor (instead, you're just getting a slightly less capable machine)
I don't think this bargain price will be beaten for a significant period of time. (but i'd love to be wrong)0 -
Available soon in m&s.
Ex demo at elonex online:

got my Acer one last Sat and just upgraded memory to 1.5gb RAM (£10 from Crucial), thanks to thisldoo helpful link above for installation method. Fairly straightforward for technically minded, now plan to upgrade to XP sometime in the next week.
Well pleased with this netbook, have been running Linux flightsimulator and quake3 no problem. If you enable advance menu (see earlier postings), then just right click on desktop and download what you want for free.0 -
