Thank you for your help, just need to get used to key board now.
So I don't need any internet security or do I need different internet security?
Virusus - are v.v.rare on Linux - so no where as essential as if you were on an MS o/s (vista, xp etc). But if you do want to use protection (credit to Browntoa for this link, in an earlier posting)

Best of luck ....
Also look on the ACER website for a number of extra (FREE) linux applications, including photo editing s/w, expence management etc ....0 -
You can easily use a Linux system on AOL. You do not even need to use any AOL software on your Windows PC, in fact it's best if you don't. The router makes the connection and your devices simply connect to the router painlessly, either via WiFi or Ethernet.
Despite googling and finding most places saying I couldn't use Linux with AOL as my ISP, I did try via Ethernet last night and... couldn't get it to work. If you are sure it should, I will give it another go, thanks, as I really do like the machine and don't mind the Linux system (especially the 95% size keyboard and the screen - hence why I am reluctant to return it).butterfly )i(0 -

if you hover your mouse over the icon of a power plug close to the clock in the corner it will tell you if your charging, is fully charged or if on bat how much is remaining.0 -
Hi All,
Ive already posted a couple of times re this subject but just to let you know
I have now put Xp onto mine and it works a treat!
Just put the Xp disc in a external dvd/cd drive turn on your Acer and press f12 when it tells you to on the black boot up screen.
Then change the order so it boots from the dvd/cd drive first.
You will then just need to follow the on screen Xp disc commands (and yes format the drive when it asks you - dont worry nothing will go wrong and you can always put Linux back on using the disc provided with your Acer)
Once this has been done and you have a basic version of Xp on your Acer- use another computer to download the Xp drivers from the Acer website (someone earlier has posted a link and its dead easy just download all of them) on to a usb memory stick or sd card.
Put the stick or card into your Acer.
Then download them onto your newly Xp'd Acer and Voila!
All the things such as sound, screen and touchpad etc work as they should.:T
As for upgrading the memory to cope with the demands of Xp thats another matter - it seems you have to completely dismantle it to get at the spare memory port.
BUT THERE IS ANOTHER WAY!
For those that know Vista there is a utility on there called READYBOOST, whilst this doesnt work on Xp theres a website where you can download something similar
http://www.eboostr.com/?gclid=CPPNjPjPmJgCFQsyQgodtXKPnA
This is a program that you can use for free for upto 4hrs per boot up (or pay $29 for the full version) you then put a sd card in the spare sd slot and your Acer will utilise this as though its a memory upgrade!!! (so no need to rip your shiney new Acer apart and void your warranty!)
The way it does it this a bit technical but it does work (before anyone says anything - I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMPANY) and its free.
Hope this helps - maybe this thread should now be shifted to the techie forum?:rolleyes:0 -
One very last question (I promise! lol) to you lovely people..
Does it come with some kind of case/sleeve to protect it, or do I need to buy that separate? Not very important, I know, but this shiny new netbook is all I can think about now!0
