One very last question (I promise! lol) to you lovely people..
Does it come with some kind of case/sleeve to protect it, or do I need to buy that separate? Not very important, I know, but this shiny new netbook is all I can think about now!
Hi Max, yes it comes with a flimsy "leatherette" sleeve to protect it. You would be best to buy somthing a bit better if your going to do a bit of travelling with it.0 -
Bought this for my mum and am so pleased with it. Its brilliant. Has a built in web cam and will connect to wifi.
Also, amazon has a lovely little case for it that just opens with the netbook, means you don't have to unzip a bag - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Leather-Premium-Aspire-version/dp/B001GRGU3M/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232113593&sr=8-12

to answer some questions...
1. Works great either wireless or cable connection to Virgin Media
2. The pack does include a cheap looking thin notebook sleeve, but I have my eyes on getting a swordfish 'zip 2 go' case when I find a good price.
3. The charging light at top left of keyboard (with all the other LEDs) glows orange when charging and green when fully charged. Also you can click the icon bottom right of screen (plug icon) and a window will open showing the charge percentage.
Also, Asda sell an own brand 'Notebook Optical Mouse' which I recommend, if like me you hate touch pads. The mouse seems to work well on any surface and was about £4-90p. I prefer the notebook mouse, but there is a full size mouse available at similar price.0 -
Has anyone tried to enquire about stock at the Bodmin Asda? I couldn't get anybody who knew what I was talking about! But I'll try and catch a different person tomorrow by phone, fingers crossed.0

Thanks everyone for their replies!
I have found this case, if it helps someone. It seems that it's free delivery too, and you can pay by Paypal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I am not too hot on computer issues and use my 8 year old laptop at home basically for emails, shopping etc., I have not gone wireless. I am liking the idea of a small portable with wireless. I have a few questions:-
I am on Virgin - so am I right in thinking I need to contact them for wireless log on
and do I need to buy a router?
or, is the Linux system Broadband, so would be able to surf indoor and out (if I could pick up a signal)...........probably all be gone by tomorrow but worth me asking in case they get any more in..
Thanks,SallyD0 -
I read somewhere that the offer is an Acer promotion from 12 to 20 Jan. The Staff in Asda said it was for 1 week only - not sure if this is the same week as Acer announced! So if your after one of these you will need to act fast...Farnborough (Hants) has 4 or 5 remaining in stock. Also, be aware some of the staff are unaware of the offer, as they where not on general display (kept out back!).0

Thanks,
I'm no expert, but I am on virgin too. My mate got me a wireless router and a wireless USB dongle for my laptop (mine doesn't have wireless inbuilt, like this Acer netbook has). So, I would think that as long as you get a wireless router, and your current laptop is wireless enabled, you will be able to get online on your network easily. The Acer is wireless enabled so doesn't need a USB dongle.
You don't need to contact Virgin for that.0 -
Yes .... i'm on VM and it works perfectly .... just make sure you know your wireless network name (SSID) and the key .... then enter this when prompted (earlier posts mention the steps required), you should be connected within minutes ....
Yaaaay i have the netbook and i LOVE IT! So nice looking
I too am on Virgin Media broadband, no probs connecting at all. It connected to my wireless netgear max router really easily, just entered password after it had searched - et voila.
Really chuffed with it, Linux is really good imo. And the size very handy to take with me when i go on my hotel jaunts. Gonna be much easier than my 17" laptop i can tell ya that!
Cheers

Hi Max,
just had a look at this and to be honest it doesnt look much better than the one you get free with it.
Also as this is a American website Im sure you wont get free delivery and if you do it will probably take weeks to arrive!:mad:0
