the case that comes with the notebook offers very little protection in my mind (it's ok to keep the dust off around the house).

Best to get a neoprene or other type that offers good protection if used out and about.

    Hi Max,
just had a look at this and to be honest it doesnt look much better than the one you get free with it.

Also as this is a American website Im sure you wont get free delivery and if you do it will probably take weeks to arrive!

It does say that they ship worldwide at no additional charge....And the reviews seemed to be ok. But if you say that the provided sleeve is similar, then maybe it's better to look for something sturdier, I agree. :O)

Is there any way I can install Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 to the Acer running on Linux?

    Cheers Dudes,

  • Bah. I took the train to the Clapham (London) ASDA and they'd all sold out. I guess I should have called first!

Depends how good you are at modifying Linux! There is an application called WINE that is a Windows emulator, so should run most windows applictions with a degree of success....

Alternatively, there are other applications such as Pixel, GIMP etc...

http://www.gimp.org/features/ http://www.gimp.org/. I've read that there is a plug in available called Gimp-shop that will make the controls mirror Photoshop. Maybe not totally up to Photoshop pro's speed but more than capable for most user's needs.

Take what I say with extreme caution as I'm new to Linux also! Suggest you google for more info.

Yes, but it's not straight forward - As mentioned earlier there is an application for Linux called WINE (Windows emulator) here is a link to some info on running Photoshop. It seems to suggest that Elements 4 will work with a few 'tweaks'

Wine is actually pretty good if you persevere with it - lot's of Windows apps can be run.

As Blotch suggests above, definately worth checking out GIMP. I use it on my desktop, it's excellent.

I called mine today, and they seemed to know immediately what I was talking about, so I'm assuming I wasn't the first one to call! I'm hoping the guy actually reserved one for me now....I would hate to be disappointed after so much anticipation and humming and aahing about how (un)reasonable I'm really being...lol
