right here's another stupid question, from someone who knows not much about computers.

If i bought one, and i took it on holiday with me, would i be able to use it at any premises that says 'free internet access'

    thanks

Yes, providing they have free WiFi, it will work fine .... there are various sections on MSE that detail good free WiFi sources when you're out and about .... including McDonalds, Fon points etc ....

thanks for that, i got £200 from work and i wanted to buy something for me,

so i would be able to use this when i'm sat on the sofa.

also i've now merged my sky and virgin broadband, i rang virgin to send out a wireless router, and they wanted £47 for it, so i rang sky, and i'm taking my virgin broadband and phone over to them, i will get free interned, 2mg, this is what i'm on now, and it will only cost me £5 for the phone calls a month, and whatever bt want line rental, and i'm currently paying for sky+ and then virgin £30 a month for phone and broadband

also is the blue a nice colour...lol

I seem to be having a little trouble setting up the bootable usb drive.

I am following instructions using PeToUSB and when that opens up the website says it will automatically select the usb drive, but mine is showing no drives at all so i am at a dead point at the moment.
I have tried a usb stick formatted (2gb) and also a 1GB SD card and still nothing.

    Any ideas?
Things that are free in life are great, well most of the time

I'm loving it a minime laptop wooo. I will only be using mine for internet surfing and bit of light lesson planning so I am not planning to do anything complicated with mine - happy with linux.

Thanks everyone who answered all my questions earlier.

To boot from the usb stick in linpus you have to press F12 at the bios screen then select the device to boot from. I have had success making bootable usb sticks using unetbootin-windows-304.exe and have my aspire one booting into ubuntu eee version

I'm lovin' it aswell (And yes, I also really love the blue colour too guys :p )

I am happy with Linux as i only want to surf on it when i'm away, but the only downfall is i really miss Microsoft Outlook for accessing my emails, so would consider Windows just for that purpose really.

Unless there's a way to config my Virgin media mail to come through the linux mail option..? Hmm, off for a look... EDIT: Ooo! There is!!! Yay.

Thanks again for indirectly persuading me ya'll! :D

I am thinking of getting one of these but I only need it to use away from home with a Usb dongle (Huawei E220) I don't want to buy and find it does not work. Does anyone know for certain that I can use it with the dongle. I am not very technical so it will not have to be anything too difficult.

According to various posts (dated 2008)- a number of people have been able to get them working with a couple of technical tweeks (you'd need to know what you are doing), reciently there has been an official - update (you need to run live update on the unit, and/or download a specific app/driver upgrade from the acer website), this speicifcally mentions the Huawei unit, and apparently works.

Although .... you'll need to be quick getting one ....
