An OS Valentine's meal?

This year we're going out for our evening meal (£17.50 per head for the set meal, so not too bad I thought!) but I thought I'd do a special Valentine's breakfast/lunch so I'm doing bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon (Sainsburys Basics, but shhhhh :rotfl:) and then either waffles with squirty cream and strawberries, or chocolate French toast with choc sauce and strawberries. Hopefully if we have that early in the day it'll keep us going until we go out for our meal at 9.D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

For the first time in years ive remembered it's this Sunday, ive got a special someone a card and a bunch of flowers.
But since every year i forget it, i'd like to do something special this year. Obviously she might blow me out so don't want to waste a fortune.
Has anyone got any OS idea's - Ones that workThe Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
As this has fallen from the front page of OS with no replies
I'll add it to the existing thread on Valentine meals

Hubby and me are staying in this year. Normally we would go to one of our two fave restaurants as an absolute treat but that would be at least £40 (in my eyes, i am more than happy to be OS to have a treat that both of us totally appreciate!)
However, this year we are saving to do up our house and I am off the beginning of next week so can make something nice and we have plenty left in the grocery budget this month - although hoping to spend no mire than £10 or so - some nice meat?.
Bascially, I'm looking for ideas. I fancy getting breaded camemcert from A*di - had at aunty's yesterday an they were gorgeous! Maybe homemade soup.
What are you lot having?
Thanks in advance!!

Valentines Day is DD's birthday, she will be 22, but as tradition dictates it will be her choice for dinner.........unless she has plans, in which case will create a culinary masterpiece of OH's choice, the way his stomach is sending messages this week it will be mince and tatties or spam or somesuch, who says romance is dead!!!!!RIP Iain

I would be quite happy with the breaded camembert from Aldi - but, my OH loves his steak and chips! and Aldi have had Rib eye steaks in! my favourite cut of steak. with mushrooms, peas, and fried onions - not forgetting pepper sauce! we will pig out!
Will serve it on meat platters ala steakhouse style - to make it romantic I may dig out some red paper napkins............but as OH can completely forget its valentines day (must go around with his eyes and ears shut) I wont be holding my breath for a ROMANTIC dinner.0 -
I'm planning on doing us 4 braised stuffed lambs hearts. The stuffing is just a packet of (ASDA SmartPrice, 15p) sage & onion stuffing, with half a finely chopped onion and a teaspoon of finely chopped sage added. The other half of the finely chopped onion goes in a small ovenproof dish. Put the hearts in, upright, leaning against each other. Break up any leftover stuffing and put it in as well. Cover with water. 180°C, 350°F, gas mark 4 for about 4 hours.
Creamy, buttery mashed potato goes really well with the rich gravy this produces. Fine green beans in little bundles.
A bottle of 2010 Spanish Tempranillo. (ASDA, 3 for £10.)
Dessert is blueberries and plain yoghurt, with oatflake crumbs on top. (The blueberries were reduced, it's cheaper to get a big tub of yoghurt for a Chicken Korma I also plan to do, and the oatflake crumbs are left over from the Cranachan I did for Burns' Night.)

i think sometimes it's nicer to do some that requires more time than you would usually put in to a meal. rather than spending more moneym that recipe you have always wanted to try but never got round to it. for a starter i always like a really nice/posh pate, pudding, home made panacotta. cheap, easy, but so naughty. with a lovely fruit sauceOpinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

I think we might have an M&S meal in rather than going out and spending money. I have already bought the chocolates (Thorntons, half price at T*esco) so all we need is candlelight ...0
