Great idea for a thread.
I think a really nice roast will do the trick for us. Find 3 courses hard to eat at home (or out). So:
Roast duck or chicken, roast potatoes & parsnips & onions, cabbage, carrots. Yorkshire puddings.
Followed by Apple crumble or something like that. I think Jamie Oliver does a home made trifle so I may have a got at that, maybe in individual glasses.
Not big drinkers so will get some nice flavoured water served in cocktail glasses!
Look forward to seeing more ideas.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

For valentines I'm doing a roast lamb dinner with all the trimmings and home made chocolate mousse. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3394/mars-bar-mousses
I've ordered a card using the bonus print offer (50p) on another thread (fingers crossed it arrives) and got some little heart chocolates for 39p at home bargains.
Keeping my eye out for something a little extra but struggling as my OH isn't really into hearts and flowers just because its valentines.2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

Went to Morrisons today and noticed they are doing a valentines meal deal for £8..choice of starter, main, side, pud and wine. I will try and find a link if they have it on their web site..

Try the poundshop they have a mixture of valentine things. They have a heart shape frying pan for £1 .
ALdi are selling mussels in garlic for only £1.79 for your starter- like other OP mentioned.
Also they do really cheap exotic meats etc.
Maybe make a mousse desert- I make a cholcoate mousse using cheap chocolate from Aldi and it tastes so yummy. I use delia's recipe.0 -
If you have any heart shaped biscuit cutters you can do things like heart shaped blinis or bread (cut out the shape) with cream cheese and heart shaped smoked salmon mmmm (chefs privilege to eat the leftover bits cut out for lunch in our house lol-but I love smoked salmon).
I also have a metal heart shape (bigger size) and can do pancakes drop scones etc.
Plenty of rec on the internet for easy homemade choc truffles, st delias are good. Choc dipped strawberries are easy and yummy.
Or simply make your favorite meal and dress up as though you are going out.
Don't laugh but on occasion Oh has gone out and come in dressed up as tho its a first date (Last time he appeared with a bunch of flowers -I thought he was out getting wine), have a bit of fun with it, watch a fav DVD, listen to fav music, dance together to your fav romantic tunes.
Mind you not sure what we will manage this year as I am 25 wks pregnant with baby no 4 so difficult to get peace and quiet in our house lol, kids keep appearing asking why we are eating late and can they try some.
All part of the fun.

I find it easier if I find some kind of idea for the whole night, last time I did Italian. A few bits of antipasti, asparagus risotto, lamb stewed with peppers and polenta, and a home made tiramisu.
It is best to make whatever your OH loves though!0 -
We're doing that too, this year. I'm planning to make a curry from the Madhur Jaffrey Curry Bible (well, it's the Vietnamese Pork thing), followed by home-made lemon posset. Am going to set the dining table out all nicely with candles, put the fairy lights on & open a bottle of cava (we stocked up when the Co-op last had Monstrol Rose on offer!). Then we are planning to watch a film. One of the nicest Valentine's Day gifts I ever received from my partner was a little pot of snowdrops. They were already in flower so I enjoyed them as they were on a windowsill, then planted them outside where they have come back every February in time for Valentine's and also multiplied so there's now a whole big clump.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

I've seen an ice cube tray in Asda (I think it was about £1?) that does heart shaped ice cubes. I was thinking of using it to make OH some heart shaped chocolates.
I like the idea of the heart shaped pasta - I may have to visit Aldi tonight. OH's favourite meal is spaghetti or pasta bolognese so it sounds ideal!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:

What a fab idea to do heart shaped chocolates like that. Will look for that in Asda. :TDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
