I'm going to have to pick you up on pond life. Tadpoles, water boatmen, various larvae, newts - all with a function to play. Some of the rarer types particularly useful in getting major building projects cancelled. Bracketing them with !!!!!!'s not really fair on the Natterjack Toad.

  • at least half of those jobs are non-jobs and 100% of them are well overpaid.

the civil service make me sick. slash their pay. if they don't like it, let them get a job in the real world. they will accept it in the end because most of them know they wouldn't last 5 minutes in a world where they have to make money and be efficient rather than waste money and be as ineffecient and inneffectual as possible.

civil service 50% off all their wages now!!!!!!!

some of it was unneccesary ( ie logging information twice on 2 different databases due to laws on data sharing)

But I could have worked 24 hours a day 365 and never had enough time to do the work I had to do.

I can identify with this. I worked as a civil servant for about 9 months (junior - middle management, although the actual job title sounded a lot more important than this), and although it was an interesting job, it was really stressful. The more you did, the more was piled on, and there was a real blame culture. After I had been there for about 6 weeks someone left (they often did) and I got her work landed on me as well. I even had to represent the UK at some meeting in Rotterdam of all places over a bank holiday (with no extra pay or holiday). The money was rubbish as well! Nothing like the examples above. I was glad to get back to the so-called 'real' world.

The White Horse - NONE of the jobs mentioned are Civil Service, they are Local Government. There is a big difference between the two and where the money comes from to fund salaries.

The Beds CC job is precarious, the council will cease to exist this year.

  • I am a new civil servant - been working in my dept for the past 10 months.

Myself and my manager and a few others in our team work our socks off.

BUT!! I have never worked in a more money wasting company who seems to reward lazyness - with longevity overuling intelligence, initiative and grade. Agree with the blame culture, cannot believe the way some civil servant behave and their managers know they are horrid lazy oafs - but lets not rock the boat and actually get them working eh?!

The civil service really is something alright!!:rotfl:

That's nothing - the real money wasted is paying pricate consultants over £1000 a day to tell all depts how to become more efficient - plan this etc etc. Their pay really is a joke!!

Layla - why get them working when you can dismiss them. I know of at least 3 people dismissed from CS for inefficiency/poor attendance, 2 in same office within 2 yrs.
