There are two issues here. Firstly, people with a strong work ethic often find work in public sector very frustrating. Secondly, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that the better jobs are reserved for insiders or the friends and family of insiders.[/quote]
So civil servants do not have a strong work ethic? There are people from all walks of life with a strong work ethic and the same goes for those without a strong work ethic. It happens in the private sector too. There will always be some who work harder than others. Also, not all govt depts are the same in the work that they do, so making sweeping generalisations is pointless.0 -
- Advisor to Barclay Capital. (Look what happened to the banking sector.)
- Advisor to Ford. (Look what happened to them, too, but maybe dear old Digby could blame it on <1> above!!)
- Non-executive director of iSoft, overseeing huge payouts to directors. (It's now gone bust.)
- Good friend of the Daily Mail. (Yes, that politically impartial newspaper with absolutely no agenda. Yeah, right!)
- Talks about sacking people, yet is a member of a club (House of Lords) where it really is a job for life, where you cannot be sacked and where you are accountable to no-one, least of all the electorate.
RIP independent MSE.

A £35 billion hole has appeared in local Council Pensions. The fair solution would be for the public sector accept slightly more modest pension terms. So what are they doing? You guessed it; they are pillaging the budget and looking for ways to cut back on services. Many councils are pouring millions of pounds a year extra into their pension funds to help close the deficits.

Perhaps we could ask a Labour Peer to put down a amendement. Hang on, can we afford to do that?

Can it be any wonder we are becoming cynical about the way we are governed?
