    Really? Whatever.

Let's take their domestic SOS service. If I remember rightly, it can only be used three times in one year. BG's domestic service on the other hand is a bit more expensive, but no call out limits.

Seems more like a vanity account if you ask me!

You really haven't got anything worthwhile to add, have you?

Yes, of course it is a lifestyle product (just like alcohol, cigarettes, holidays, buying branded goods etc etc etc). There is no point in having this account if you don't get value from the bolt-ons it includes. You can always get a basic bank account or o PO card account instead...

By the way, try using BG's service more than a few times a year and see if they let you renew at any sensible price...It is nothing more than an insurance policy with an annual inspection (the latter being more to do with finding potential for selling double-priced central heating than any other reason).

We have the additions which is a cut down version for £15 considering upgrading for the £2.50 just for the airport lounge access(6 visits).

You can pick individual items that are of less use but I find that the annual travel insurance and full european RAC make it worth while and covers the monthly cost.

we have a joint account so are covered individualy which is handy is we want to travel seperetely which we do.

Having continous travel cover is better than you can get with normal annual policies, we don't have to worry about the overlap at renewal time and can book a long way ahead if we want.

The extra stuff we would not pay for normaly but handy as it is effecifly free.

I have not noticed and great increase in the price that we pay BG; have called them out several times this year!

Do you have some figures to quote?

I have used most elements of my Premier Accounts (LTSB), the most recent was where my wife had a flat battery on the motorbike and the AA came out and restarted the bike for her, it was a little heavy for her to bump start.

I have found it very handy and saved me money!

AA cover for both motorcycle & car, Domestic Emergency cover, Mobile Insurance, Card Protection, ID Protection, Travel Insurance, Overdraft fee free.

To be honest the AA cover, Home Emergency & Mobile cover make the account very worthwhile for me, and it saves loads compared to qoutes I have received for these services, however this is a joint account & covers us both. Not so sure on the value for £25 just for one person.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • I have to say the premier life account is fantastic value for money, and if you meet the criteria and can have it for the reduced £17.50 its even better. I work for barclays and have this account. Its fantastic, esp when we're traveling.

    If you're marked to R/S 90 it's £12.50 flat with no I/G refunds.

    Just saying.

You should, of course, be marked to 165 or 264 (I think that's what they are).

Out of curiosity, is the black debit card 'carbon neutral' like the blue one? Or is it an ordinary plastic one like the other banks?

I know might sound bit of a card geek but think the LTSB black premier debit card looks awesome and better than the barclays one IMO !! However lost the old 1 and then got replaced with the new olympic black debit card for my premier account card which just do not look as sexy IMO.

    Barclays must be getting desperate.

I upgraded my new Current Account to a Current Account Plus for the Mobile insurance and the card protection.

Logged into my online banking and noticed everything was sliver... and said "premier"... and the stupid bint upgraded me to Premier Life not a Plus account like I asked. You think that's getting deperate? They're giving discharged bankrupts this a/c! I was discharged March 09.

Even so, I like being made to feel valued by seeing I can have a premier account despite my awful credit history, but I don't want it and didn't ask for it. And it seems to be an absolute waste of money because I've never had to wait calling 0845 7 555 555 but I've been on the line to the Premier line for 45 minutes now to get it downgraded to the account I wanted and still no answer...

    ... people pay £25 / £17.50 a month for this??

EDIT: Call answered after 51 minutes. Chap said he couldn't understand why I was waiting so long... I get more polite service, much faster, from the offshore team on my fee-free-I'm-a-nobody account. Premier life my preverbial!
