I thought that was strange as well, as I do not qualify, but she said I do and thus has offered it at that rate.

So its worth cancelling my BG policy for the domestic Emerg Cover. and look into the will writing. Assume if the will is completed and I decide to cancel the premier service in 12 months, it is still valid ?

Need to determine if it can handle a family will.

    Thanks for your advice.

Yes, the will is still valid if you cancel your Premier Life benefits.

If you want to see what the will could cover, head over to http://www.bbtco.barclays.co.uk/

Follow the "Apply Now" link and it will walk you through filling in a will - there is an on screen version as well as PDFs and MS Word versions to download.

    Shame I don't meet those requirements :p
The £17.50 price is for qualifying Premier clients. If you have £100,000 cash (£60,000 if you're under 35 or have a Business relationship with Barclays) or you have £50,000 to save or invest, you get it for the reduced price. :p

If you don't meet the requirements, you are still qualified. However according to the website (http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=homefreevi2&value=12854&target=_self&site=pfs) and the brochure, it will be £25 per month.

It's not qualifying in the sense of "getting in," it's qualifying in the sense of qualifying as a Premier client. You can still sign up if you want to, you just need to make sure you use the benefits. The price is based off your account's "refer stream," which is set by the seller opening the account.

By the by, qualifying staff members get it for £12.50. :P

  • I spoke to an adviser about this yesterday and if you open a joint account is is £25 / £17.50 for the account - so as me and hubby are both paying £12.95 EACH at RBS, I think this seems like a better option for us.

We do not 'qualify' for the cheaper rate - How ironic is it that the more money you have, the less you have tio pay.............!
    Joint debt - £25,090

The more money you have in savings and investments, etc. the more we will make from them, to even out the lower fee.

Sounds like you both have separate accounts at RBS.

You should only be paying 1 fee for your Royalties Gold account - the fee is for each account, not for each person on the account.

As an example, you get free mobile phone insurance as part of RoyGold - with joint accounts you can get 2 handsets insured instead :)

Here's a link to RBS Private, if you prefer those benefits, and of course, qualify for it.

Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p
  • I have recently joined barclays premier life at the 17.50 per month rate. They take joint incomes into account if it is a joint acccount when deciding if you qualify for the 17.50 rather than 25 fee.

Here is how it saved me money:

Joint account upgraded to premier with premier life. We get the following benefits included that we paid for seperately last year
    1) RAC cover including at home, onward and europe. Our last renewal for that was 298 (I did not try to get any discounts, guess that was overpriced). I have cancelled my RAC and they were kind enough (as I was staying with them in effect) to refund 148 by cheque.
    2) Family travel insurance (inc all children when travelling with account holders), including business travel and winter sports. Last year we paid 76.

So already we are converting what was 31 per month to 17.50 per month.

The on top of that we get the following bonuses thrown in. Maybe for others these would be savings if you were alrady paying seperately, or maybe you already have them from someone else or don't want them. There a load more ... I'm just listing the ones that I think we will use:
    a) insure two mobile phones (joint account)
    b) insure gadgets up to 500 pounds
    c) domestic emergency cover up to 1000 pounds (eg burst pipe)
    d) extra year warranty on domestic appliances
    e) card protection scheme

On top of this I they have changed my Barclaycard platinum into an unadvertised "premier" version ... which has given me a reduced interest rate on the balance transfer (0% fee, 6.9% interest) and they offer 12 months 0% then 6.9% on other balance transfers for a 2.9% fee.

So all in all, I'm a happy customer ... Barclays retained me, I have saved money, and got a bunch of bonuses thrown in. :D

Hi elaps, I've also recently converted my account to Premier Life. May I ask what the interest rate for purchases is on the credit card? Does it look pretty like the black debit card? :P
    Cashback Earnt so far in 2009: AMEX £133.93, wepromiseto.co.uk £67.07, Barclaycard £25, MobilePhoneExchange: £28. TOTAL: £254.00
