I picked up 5 flannels/facecloths for £1 in poundland as part of someones Xmas package. Try there. Failing that markets and little chemist would tend to be cheaper than Boots or M&S.. IN fact I worked for M & S and dont even think they do them...
I also don't think M&S do reduced food unless you mean special offer. I worked there for a few months over Xmas a while back and they tend to staff sell/ give to charity or rather sadly just bin a lot of their stuff.I think in this climate they should really do themselves a favour and bin the snobby attitude. TBH I lived like royalty/celebs when I worked there as often the staff shop had some excellent food bargains. Why shouldn't they still make money out of it by having a reduced section rather than binning it to maintain a certain image? We wouldn't think any less of our beloved M&S and might all be able to afford to shop there more - well the middle section of society anyway, perhaps not so much us OS'ers. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

I think it's just something I like doing because cooking is another way we nourish and take care of our loved ones. Or maybe we're just both odd. :rotfl:Take the first step.

Just take the first step.

Just got back from the library & a quick look round our town. Got 4 hot water bottles in Home Bargains for 99p each so pleased at that. There's bound to be another cold snap soon! Also got 2 x 3kg tubs of Orangina sorbet for a pound in Jack Fulton's, a local frozen & bargain food shop. Very pleased with my meagre spends LOL!! I'm saving up for a bigger freezer this year. I had a very old chest freezer which died last summer & have been making do with the small freezer above the fridge/freezer ever since. It's small & barely holds anything - grrrrr! It's a good incentive to save the pennies though. I've started with 20p's and 10p's dh doing 5's, 2's & 1's. It'll all add up eventually LOL!
Hope everyone is having a good day & have managed to get a few minutes of peace before the evening rush starts.0 -

Good afternoon! :hello:
r.mac - Glad you're enjoying your quiet day! It will do you good!:)
reverbe - Thanks for your reply! I bought the flannels in BHS, as it's near to where we usually park the car. They were in the sale - they were £2 each but really big and thick so should last a very long time. I didn't think of trying Poundland, but in any case it's right at the other end of the shopping centre and a bit far for me to walk today. The really good bit is that when I went to post them (we'd taken a Jiffy bag with us), there was only 1 person ahead of me in the queue at the Post office, or should I say WH Smith :T
AussieLass - When I read your post I didn't notice the part about Benny being prone to car sickness - I hope all went well!
tattycath - Welcome back!
jackieO - What great news about your DSIL! Is this the family with 5 children? And I know just what you mean about the evenings starting to get lighter - lovely to think Spring's on its way even thought it may be a while yet! :j
wannabe sybil - I'm quite sure we are all much too fond of you to ever tell you off :A Don't worry too much about housework, it will get easier as little bear gets older. We gave our 2yo grandson a little dustpan and brush and broom set when it was his baby sister's birthday, and he loves it - he thinks it's wonderful to help sweep the floor
MoneySavingDiva - hope all's as okay as poss and that you've been able to get hold of Tristan. ((HUGS))0 -
I'm late posting today, had a bit of a rough night but feel quite a bit better now. Kids off school unwell today too. Chilli is bubbling away on the cooker as i type this and it looks like another No spend day today. Woohoo! I get so excited by no spend days LOL!
Hope you are all doing okay :-)Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Afternoon all
Shorter day today, I managed to leave by 3:45 & I got a lunch break!!
Welcome back Tattycath, welcome Jollyjojo.
Thanks for mentioning potatoes boulangere, I'll do that for tea with the casserole.
I started making pickled bums today, Bow was most intrigued & no doubt will start making her own now.
Have a good evening everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hello all - missed the last couple of days so hope all are OK and not too much bad news or poor health around. I'll have a read through the thread later on.
Bit of good news in the post today - Northern Rock have agreed that they did mis-sell me the PPI on my loan and they will be paying me back with interest in top! :j Really pleased - I honestly expected the first response to be "no - we're right, you're wrong, now go away" so opening the envelope and finding that was a marvellous surprise!
Venison stew is in the SC as we speak - MrEH is at rugby training tonight so I have the flat to myself and I got home from work early too as I worked my lunch break and did a site visit this afternoon. I've had a mooch around on the forums, caught up with some of my fellow MFW'ers and done some photo processing I needed to get done. I can now do a Photobox order for some prints that I owe people and also a small photobook for my parents in law from my BIL's wedding last year.
I failed on Flylady last night as we had lots to do on the spare room decorating so decided to concentrate on that. I also have an easy night tonight as the bathroom needs nothing done and our equivelent of the "study" is the spare room which will be given a thorough clean once we're done sanding painting etc, and not before! :rotfl: It really is the final push in here now though which is good - I have to shorten a set of curtains - they are lined too so two lots of sewing. I can see the sewing machine geting borrow back from my Mum! Shopping list will be put together tonight for the farm shop and MrT tomorrow - my coupons are already in envelopes in my bag ready to grab and use in MrT's! Grocery spend this week should be low again. I find a wander round the supermarket with my list quite soothing - I'm sure I could get in and out far quicker but always seem to take ages!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Morning all :hello:
Don't you just hate being a day ahead of yourself. I was convinced yesterday was Thursday and today is Friday grrr.
Redruby I hope your nephew gets some help to deal with all this. perhaps his GP can arrange some sort of counselling.
Halight glad you enjoyed a nice day yesterday and I hope something turns up soon for you job wise. The twins sound adorable btw
Thriftlady shopping of all forms makes me want to poke my eyes out with a sharp stick, I simply detest it apart from books that is..oh and shoes Each time I mention shoes I hear DH muttering under his breath about Imelda. Seriously though I really hate shopping apart from books and shoes.
Diva any word yet how Tristan is doing?
Churchmouse I hope you have a better day today, what you are going through is all part of the grieving process
PP I hope all goes well at the hospital and you have a rest
I want to send positive thoughts and warm hugs to all those poorly folks, all those recently bereaved, those who have worries and cat hugs from the furry mudgekin to all the poorly pets
Today will be a freezer rummage when I get home as I was confused with the days and I refuse to buy any food today on the way home. I need to get my act together and plan next week's meals as I must do a proper shop this weekend, hopefully I can get most of the major things and that will just leave milk and veg for the rest of the month. I am determined to make more use of my slow cooker as I really don't use it often enough so will factor this in when I shop.
have a good day everyone
Mel xx

The twins are great:T
