Hello everyone,((((HUGS)))) to the many who need them at the moment.I always think Dec/Jan/Feb are amongst the worst months for bad news, illness etc.The weather is pretty mild here today, though I got soaked when out with the dog.Not too long till we can start to look forward to spring(we need to have something to look forward to)
I also went to the Boots sale and bought quite a few things-I totted up the correct price, should have been £75,it came to less than£17 and I used my points so I was well pleased.Amongst other things I got some soap sets that came to under a pound,a new mouse and mat,and some beauty gift sets.In M&S I got some reduced food too that I have put in the freezer, last night we had a chicken breast, tomato and basil in a lattice puff.Don't usually buy food from there, but I had some vouchers so had a look while I was there.
I am making some soup today with sweet potato, potato, apple and a dollop of mango chutney. It was in one of the Aldi leaflets before Christmas,my friend made it and said it was lovely,so I'd best get peeling
Take care everyone xx.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Good morning all!
Stef - enjoy your weekend away, and keep us updated on Mr Crisis! As Kathy will confirm, the most exciting thing in my life is warming the kids slippers on the radiator, so I have to live vicariously through others lol!
sweetpeanut - I hope that the funeral goes as well as can be today, hugs to you x
Almo - you'll be fine here, this thread won't be killed off lol! I do a similar thing but add cheese, assume that this won't be okay if your oh is allergic to milk, I have used mixed herbs and garlic which is nice, or you can do it in stock (or water and a couple of cubes!) which is then potatoes boulangere I think? Anyway it's nice!
Jojo - welcome to the thread, you'll be flinging wash loads in with abandon and returning from the gym early in the morning within a month lol! Or perhaps not if you're like most of us! Most OS stuff is more habit than anything else I think, it's just a question of getting into the habit!
Moggins - welcome back! Think quite a few people have watched the Victorian Farm, there was a thread on it somewhere, I really enjoyed it, glad it's repeated on Friday as well, as I'm going to miss it tonight! You've reminded me, there's a book to go with the series that's cheap from the Book People apparently, must have a look in a bit!
Thriftlady - I enjoy grocery shopping, for some bizarre reason full cupboards have always made me feel happy! Looking at the stock piles everywhere in my kitchen at the mo I should be delirious lol! I've got to do the rounds of the supermarkets today, I do a big loop and pop into them all for the various bargains or bits that are only stocked in each one. Sainsburys is the only one here to do the chinese curry paste, Morries do cheap tinned chickpeas and spices and going to see what their two free items are with the Mirror today, Mr T has orange juice at 50p a carton so will fill up a trolley and replenish the stores in the garage, Lidl and Aldi for fruit and veg offers, Asda for £1 mince.
Well today was a real struggle getting out of bed! Only had a couple of hours between finishing work and the day starting, but a couple is better than usual, trouble is it's made me feel sluggish. On the bright side I whizzed around tidying, throwing washing in the machine, folding dry stuff on airer (stupid rain started yesterday about 20 mins after I'd pegged it all out!), bm on, yoghurt on, pots washed, bedroom and bathrooms cleared and tidied, kids hoovered last night and dd3 tidied the shoe mountain in the hallway, bless her! Climbed in the shower and my phone went to say my friend was on the way over and to get the kettle on, thought they wouldn't get here till late morning as they were taking their car into the garage, but nope! Was pleased I'd done the housework already, even so I ended up answering the door wrapped in my dressing gown and with dripping wet hair!
Anyway had a nice chat over a few cuppas, caught up on all the gossip and had a good laugh. God bless my friends, and praise be that they never turn a hair no matter what state I'm in when I open the door!
Going to have some lunch and then head off on my supermarket rounds, also need wash powder, dd3 tells me Daz is cheaper in Sainburys - she was watching the ads on telly yesterday and yelled out "Daz is better than half price" and wrote it down on my list for me lol! Also need to pick up some flowers and chocs for friends birthdays, may pop into Boots if there's time and see if they have any bargains, but doing a trundle round the big shops tomorrow before lunch with a pal, if we can find any real bargains we shall be doing our bit for the economy!
Lunch will be soup for me, kids had hm rolls with marmite in for a change, clementines, choc cake, yoghurt/jelly and crisps (we'll all go to hell in a handbasket with all the crisps lately!)
Dinner for the kids will be hm burgers in hm buns (baked when I came in from work, so nice and easy), and probably wedges with salad. I'm going out for a curry as a girls birthday celebration, looking forward to catching up with everyone.
Oh, the big reductions seem to have returned at work, last night I picked up clementines reduced from £1.99 to 20p a bag, oranges £1.99 to 60p, apricots were 15p a punnet, strawberrys 60p a punnet (got 4 of these, kids will be pleased), baby onions 5p a bag (great for beef casseroles) and leeks reduced to 21p from £2.10 - there are only two in the pack, albeit two very fat ones, but still what a price they were originally! Will be keeping my eyes peeled during my tea breaks next week for more bargains, definitely helps stretch the food budget!
Hugs to all in need, going to eat and catch up now xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Sliced potatoes layered with sliced onion and crispy bacon, baked with a very thin white sauce (made with dairy free butter and rice milk - OH allergic). I feel like it needs some kind of seasoning or something as the white sauce is very bland. Was thinking about rosemary sprigs? Or maybe thyme? What do you all think? Any opinions very gratefully received.

I'm making sweet potato soup too!!! Wanted to use up the veg so sweet potato, onions, carrots, some ordinary potato and organic veggie cubes are in the slow cooker for tonight.
(((moggins)))
It's lovely to have you back but sorry things havenot been going well.
Had agreed with DH that we would let the tea bags in the caddy run right down rather than always filling it up as the ones at the bottom were not getting used. Went to the caddy this morning and someone has filled it up!! Put notice on caddy now offering to box ears of next person who "helpfully" fills up a three quarter full tin!

My twin DDs were late to talk although obviously understood what was going on. When a dragon of a "helper" told me they did not know their colours after me knowing damn well that they did - it was the last straw.
I went home and decide to take action!!!
I bought a big bag of jelly babies - held up a red one "tell me the colour and you can have it!" Scream!!! etc. etc. Eventually got a "red!" "Good girl- here you are!" Repeated this with all the colours and then did same with other twin.
Following week "helper" or PITA told me twin 1 knew her colours!!! When she asked twin 2 what purple was , there was a hesitation and helper said "it's purple". Twin 2 said "No it's not it's pale lilac!" :j
DDs both got a huge kiss later on and a treat!!!
Sybil
You are being such a good Mum little bear does not "need" to talk.
DH and I are having some quiche from yesterday for lunch and I might make baked potato or chips to have with soup tonight.
Wet and miserable here so have just put the heating on and wrapped in fleecy robe with pot of tea - bliss!!!!"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA

Afternoon
I'm determined that I'm going to get all my household jobs done before posting from now.WM's been on 3x .I've changed mine and ys bedding.I'll do the others tomorrow.SC is full of beef stew will add cumplings later.
Hubby enjoyed the chilli in his food flask yesterday so I'll be saving some of the beef stew for tomorrows lunch for him.Its so much easier to give him a hot lunch as he hates sarnies and salads.
YS has just dropped off for a nap clutching his favourite panda,so the house is deathly quiet apart from the noise of the TD and Kipper the dog on TV ahhhh bliss:D
I spent ages this morning cleaning the leather suite.I must have been wrong in my head when I bought a cream leather suite when I have 4 kids:eek: The muck that comes off it is unreal.Oh well its clean now and I vacuumed under the cushions.I hate that job as the kids drop all sorts of disgusting stuff under there:mad:
Thriftlady- I love grocery shopping theres nothing quite as satisfying IMO
Moggins- Keep meaning to watch the Victorian Farm but somehow never get round to it:o
Elona- I love the jelly baby idea but unfortunately my ys only eats choccy.Somehow cant see it working the same with buttons..........Brown............brown.........:rotfl:
MSD- Hope you finally managed to get hold of Tristan and that things are fine and I hope that Treacle has forgiven you for yesterday

Afternoon all,
well, I enjoyed my shopping trip and also enjoyed putting it all away -I know, I'm strange lol.
Just had a cheese and watercress sandwich and some fruit (and some chocolate:o ).
Have made pitta pizzas for the lunchboxes tomorrow but not done much else.
Moggins there's a thread about The Victorian Farm series that I started last week. It'll probably pop up again soon. I'm looking forward to watching it tonight.0 -
Good Afternoon chums
Welcome back Moggins,
Almo have you tried garlic salt to give it a bit of oomph, or if you have no breadcrumbs to top it with how about some smashed up crisps. My grandsons love this as a topping on top of the mash on sheppards pies.
Well I have a bit of good news that cheered me up no end My DD's husband has had redundancy hanging over his head since November and yesterday found out that he is o.k. the company have changed his job title, but kept him on the same wages and car allowance so his job is o.k. at least phew a big worry off my DD's shoulders.:j
On the downside I heard last night that my niece has split from her husband and moved back with her little boy to my sis-in-laws in Faversham to live.Sad really as I thought they seemed so happy, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Haven't discovered the reason, but I daresay it will come out in the fullness of time.Feel very sorry for all concerned especially the 4 year old as he adores his Dad.
Definitely not money worries, as they both have a combined income of around £100k.
Weather a bit murky here at the moment but I managed to get my washing blown a bit drier than I thought so its finishing off on the airer.
Have got some left over veggies from last nights dinner, so I am going to have sausages and bubble and squeak tonight.:D
trying to sort my study out as its so full of bits of paper and books and god knows what else I am determined to see the floor at some point this week. I can feel a great declutter coming on. Perhaps an early spring clean is in order. I have a huge box of books to go to the charity shop, my DD will give me a hand with that tomorrow hopefully.Well time to get the kettle on for a cuppa <<hugs>> to those who feel down or blue and remember that everyday it gets a few minutes lighter in the evenings .I always feel better when the dark nights start to go
Cheers everyone
