Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thur15th January. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well
Morning. Payday :j
Temp this morning 7c, raining. It looks pretty horrible out there.
Work today, this morning at court, then see what happens for the afternoon.
Not much else doing really.
I had an e-mail from my ink supplier ND-ink, telling me they messed up and were out of stock of my order and appologised. I sent a reply saying "please send free gift then" So they did and sent me a free black ink. Ha ha
works being cocky?
A few mins on here and then get the bins out, make lunches, iron a shirt and get ready. It feels dull today.:undecided

Morning N9eav & all that follow
Still not well here but it's nothing compared to what some people are going through so I'm not moaning. Fairly free day today here I will be going to the library later & to get a money box from Poundland, as I've started saving my 20p's and 10p's. I'm going to bank it every week so I'm not tempted to spend it & will see where I get to by the beginning of December :T I got The Frugal Cookbook by Fiona Beckett out last week, it's brilliant! Lots of great ideas on using up leftovers. In typical OS fashion I'll copy out the recipes that I want then take it back to the library :rotfl:
WM on with its 2nd load & kitchen swished & swiped so far. Lunch is some leek & potato soup I made yesterday with crusty bread & evening meal is spaghetti carbonara which is always a popular choice with the kids
Hope everyone has a happy & peaceful day and gets to do something that gives them joy along the way. (((((((((hugs))))))))))

Hi N9eav and Sunnyday. N9eav - the forecast on the news last night for your neck of the woods looked pretty gloomy for today. We're in Hampshire and it looks as if the rain will be missing us - famous last words, eh?
Sunnygirl - hope you start to feel better soon. That book sounds great - I hope you find some recipes you can share with us!
Well, I was up early again. Months and months ago, I found it hard to get to sleep or stay asleep but, since I cut out the caffeine after my evening meal and started drinking hot chocolate made with all milk, I doze off quickly and manage a good four to five hours sleep, but then I wake up and can't get back to sleep. I'm not complaining - getting a good few hours of solid sleep is still a novelty - I just wish I didn't get so tired in the evenings! The best thing is that I get to spend a good couple of uninterrupted hours on here when no-one else is up.
(((Hugs))) to all those with worries, illness, sadness and poorly family pets - it's turning into a stressful time for many people these days; it's hard sometimes to find anything to be positive about. The news doesn't help - there are some dreadful things going on at the moment.
Dinner tonight is some sort of chicken casserole. I have a couple of chicken breasts that I need to use up; pudding will be pancakes to use up a manky-looking lemon I found lurking in the fruit bowl.
I must get round to wrapping up DGS's birthday pressies for Tuesday, when he'll be 9, and DGD's for Friday, when she'll be six years old. Being so close together and just after Christmas means extra budgeting, so I always buy the pressies when I am shopping for Christmas.
Well, the WM has finished and I've just put the BM on. I'm going to change the sheets and have a good clean up today, do some of my freelance work and then take the afternoon off and laze on the sofa knitting (and trying to stay awake).
Oh, by the way - welcome back to you, Moggins. It's ages since you were here!
Well, I'm off for a shower. See you later.

Morning all,
I've some spicy carrot and tomato soup simmering and BM on, will take that to DD's for lunch. We are putting a second ceiling in her bedroom, it's an extension with a flat roof and needs more insulation. We'll leave the ceiling that's there, put up 8x4" battons, insulation, new plasterboard then plaster it. Well actually a friend will do the plastering, I can do walls but not ceilings.
Have a Lamb balti marinating, rice is cooked and onion bhajis out of the freezer so that's dinner sorted. Balti is a stirfry type recipe, it's delish.
Off to catch up as I didn't get on here y/day.
Hope today is a good one for all.0 -
Morning all,
Sunnygirl, I hope you feel better soon x
Don't know what the weather is doing yet its too dark, off to work today, so will be indoors anyway.
Its chip night tonight, always have them on a Thursday, it has always been our busy night so a quick tea is needed, fish fingers and peas with them tonight.
I am not sure if I made it clear yesterday, but nephew was 13 when the incident happened, I think I may have made it seem like he was 16, he is not 16 yet, lets hope he can try to put this all behind him and try to get on with his life.
I put a wash on last night which is on the rads, and nearly dry, will do another small load tonight, that seems to be the best way to keep on top of it for me while I am at work.
Hugs to all in need have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:
I've been flitting in and out of here for the past couple of days but haven't got round to actually posting  :rotfl:
Moggins, you only live a couple of miles from me. Why didn't you PM me and arrange to pop round? It will be a complete change of scenery (ie. escape for a couple of hours) and I have gallons of coffee and loads of cake
N9eav, you've just reminded me to put the bins out, ta
SunnyGirl, I'm having HM leek and potato soup with HM bread for lunch too
I bought Fairtrade coffee from the Co-Op yesterday, lovely but you need twice the amount of coffee to get the flavour
We need more bread so I'll start on that in a mo, and there's a ton of ironing that needs doing.
People are getting on my nerves lately so I'm going to unplug the phone. I have a mobile number that only the trus know so I'll switch that phone on insteadBulletproof0 -
Redruby - I do hope your nephew is able to put it all behind him and get on with the rest of his life. It's dreadful to think of what he has been through.

Welcome back to Moggins, it's been a while, is your little black cat coming back too?
Morning everyone,
Grocery shopping today. Does anyone else look forward to this each week or am I just odd?
I'm off to my beloved farmshop and then to Waitrose. Not much to get, just basics. I will not be tempted to get extras as we have plenty of food already -keep it simple say I.
I'm just about to make some porridge and toast for everyone's breakfast.
Lunchboxes today have ham and turkey sandwiches, fruit and chocolate-cherry muffins. I will have something similar or maybe eggs.
Supper tonight..... no idea. Probably something veggie or pasta and tomato sauce, or I might dig out the assorted leftovers in the freezer and we'll have leftover potluck:think:
See you all later;)0 -
Morning all
No fog & no frost here today, so that's a plus.
WB Moggins, lovely to see you again.
Hugs to those in need.
I'm hoping for a better day today workwise, I can't keep working straight through with no break & staying an hour late, 9 hours on my feet is too much, I must be getting old. Still on the bright side, I'm all fired up now for an arguement, after a brief flurry of activity nothing has been done about most of the problems in my room, I'm still waiting for a thermometer, so that will be today's battle.
Breakfst - Porridge
Lunch - Egg sarnies
Tea - Lamb Casserole from last week
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning All
Dreary day here again, hope it stays dry though.
Not sure what I will do today, need to pop into town to superdrug or boots, might do that this morning then some paperwork and ironing this afternoon. Got a load done yesterday but more to go.
OH is very happy as has got free tickets to see the Masters Snooker on Sat night - the kids and I will have to spend the evening looking for him in the crowd.
Glad of the football result from last night - though we are from Southend originally so a bit divided.
OS today - not too much, if I do pop into town will have a looky around iceland - see if I can get any reduced meat.
Have a great day.
