Baby Injured

I just wondered what your thoughts are on this one,

I bought a baby swing suitable for newborns from mothercare and anyway to cut a long story short my baby fell asleep (yes as newborns do !!) and his head nodded over to one side ad it got wedged between the metal chair/swing support. It was really distressing for baby and me and left an indentation in his head.

I contacted mothercare and they have collected the chair for inspection but 10 days on I havent heard anything, I have had to buy him a new one which is a sort of bucket shape and theres no way they could slip over in this one.

What do you think I should be looking for from mothercare, I have noticed that they dont sell there own brand swing anymore.

Thanks
karen

I think you should be informing trading standards,so that a seemingly dangerous product can be investigated.

I guess you need to look to see if it said "baby should always be supervised" in the instructions?

How come you are saying the one you have bought is a better design than the original?
    What's the difference?

Obviously babies should always be supervised, however I had only gone into the kitchen there is little point in haveing a baby product that isnt safe if you take your eyes off your baby for 2 minutes or have to take baby to the toilet with you etc

    What did your baby weigh?
  • I'm sorry but I would never leave a very young baby alone in a product like that

the fisher price one is really deep and comes with a head support while the mothercare one is virtually flat, he weighed about 9 lbs

I have to say that this comment has upset me, these products are designed for newborn babies to sleep in, they are chairs that can rock a baby to sleep.

Kaza, i think this product is quite worrying. If this can happens to your baby it could happen to someone elses, and while it is some kind of disclaimer to say the baby should not be left alone, you still expect the product to be safer than this.If there was an internal top harness would this have made a ny difference?

The fact is babies may possibly be left alone for a few seconds and this could happen. Parents aren't "supposed" to fall asleep through exhaustion either, when caring for their baby, but sometimes they do.They shouldn't really, but I think this product is inappropriate.

    Hi,

yes a head support would stop it happening, and just haveing checked mothercares info on the product it doesnt even state not to leave baby unattended in it, even though that is common sense, but when babys fast asleep one assumes he is safe in a suitable product and you can go and boil the kettle etc.
