Broadband. Who's the Cheapest? Article Discussion Area

Rex_Mundi wrote:I wondered why someone would recommend such a useless site to compare broadband prices. This site only lists six companies to compare prices. Seeing as there are over 60 different broadband suppliers in the UK, you are not going to be able to compare very much by only looking at six of them (all with affiliate links). This list doesn't even include the free broadband package with Sky, or Talk Talk. So it's not even listing details of the cheapest deals out there.
This looks like it may be a bit of self promotion for their own recently registered site...............

Far better to use a respected and independent site like http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps.html
Thanks for getting the details of this scam. I hope everyone ignores Pete's post. I suggest the best course of action is for him to quietly leave the forum before he is thrown out.

Please note that the Sky offer is very goood (does it realy have three Os) but..........Sky Broadband does not support VPN connections. This is a pain if you use your home Broadband to get access to your employer's network to access work systems and emails. I called their tech support and almost cried when they said NO!!! If you only need to surf and send emails it sounds like a great deal. If you require something a bit more exotic, then you had better check with their tech support on 0800 0512595 as there may be other things that aren't supported. No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Hello all, if anyone uses supanet and is out of contract, then try and haggle. I've been with them for 3 years paying £17.99 a month. Just come out of contract, and decided to get money-savvy and was planning on swapping to Madasafish [5Gb limit 8Mb download speed (£13.99)] so phoned up requesting a MAC. Supanet don't do MACs - you just need to give them 30 day's notice and they'll disconnect. However the rep said on the phone 'we don't want to lose you' - they asked me who I was planning on switching to and I told them, so they offered me unlimited downloads at up to 8Mb speed for £14.99 p/month. Apparently this costs 24.99 to new users and as I've had no problems with their service be it customer service, technical support or broadband access itself, I'm happy to stay with them. And I don't have to worry about reliability of a new provider or time spent without internet access!

I rang NTL as my broadband bill went to £17.99 and they reduced it to £9.99.
They said that they don't do yearly discounts only 6 months at a time and to ring up again in 6 months to get the discount applied again.
While I was on the phone, I asked her if there were any special deals on the tv and she reduced my tv bill to £12 for family package. Well pleased. Just have to remember to ring again in 6 months. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -

Martin indicates that TalkTalk is the best value phone/broadband combination.
However- I have heard bad things in the press about them. This includes long waits for connection and very poor customer service.
Does anyone have any comments on TalkTalk ? Are they actually any good ?0
