Hi guys, Im currently with Telewest and would like to stay with them. Currently per month i pay £37.24
Line rental is £11.00, 2MB Broadband costs £17.99(had it for £9.99 but this ran out on last bill) Talk Unlimited which is £14.50 and Call Bar for £1.50.

I checked out NTL and im sure they and Telewest joined or something. Anyways i cant get NTL in my area but they will do 2 MB net for £9.99 (a year i think).

Any other ways to reduce the cost? Obviously i dont wanna lower my packages. Id rather threaten to go to another company which offers blah in the hope they price match.

Any good offers i can test against??
  • Some one please make a decision for me. I'm stuck between Pipex or BT for broadband & phone calls so as I can get one bill. price difference is only £5. Which would you use or should I look at something different.
  • On this site here : http://www.moneysupermarket.com/broadband/ it says that if i have a telewest phone service i can have 2MB Broadband for £8.99, but there is nothing on the Telewest site to back it up...

i used to be on Zen ~ superb service & customer support but couldnt afford £35 /month. switched to f2s dsl max. £23.99 / month 50gb cap but 1am-6pm not counted towards cap. p2p is packet shaped but you can get round it using encryption. You also get php enabled webspace with a mysql database. Customer support is pretty good but you end up on hold a lot at off-peak times. fortunately the help on http://www.freedom2support.net/forums/index.php is excellent and theres even some f2s tech support people around.

Cheap internet is all very well and good as long as you dont have any problems but lets face it broadband isnt always simple like plugging in a telephone and theres a huge scope for problems and they're not all the responsibility of your ISP.

hello Nony, have you any problems with virgin broadband? I am looking at the cheapest package with free calls £9.99 pm. I have considered talktalk but have been warned that the broadband is very unreliable between 8 and 10 at night, as it looses connection. As this is the time i am most likely to be on i would like something relatively reliable - or am i asking too much?

Is it worth trying to 'latch on' to someone elses broadband - what are pitfalls?
  • I recently signed for the Tiscali 1Mb broadband. Although I was connected within a couple of weeks, the connection has never worked properly. The technical support seems totally useless. You are several times promised to be called back by senior technical support people but frequently the promised calls do not materialize at all. If you ask to speak to a manager, you are put on hold for 0870* number with nobody ever picking up the phone. If you try to cancel your contract, you are told that you have signed for 12 months.

  • Fast4 (v21) seems to be a really dodgy firm. It has now been bought by Biscit but the problems continue. Their billing of "monthly" charges tends to happen a lot more frequently than once per month. I have had several problems that I had to correct with the customer service department. A friend of mine had been charges 15 times the monthly charge within 11 months (by debit card) and no refund has been provided. Internet is full of complaints about people with monthly contract suddenly transferred to an annual contract (with the dial-up). When I tried to cancel my dial-up connection, I was informed that the cancellation was not written in the correct Cancellation Form (not available!)

Theres a good list here to check the prices etc
I wouldn't describe your list as 'good'. It contains 6 ISPs only out of about 150 in the UK. I would be very dubious of any list recommending Tiscali and AOL.

For an impartial view I recommend you look at:

    http://www.thinkbroadband.com

Here you will find most ISPs listed together with users comments.

I wondered why someone would recommend such a useless site to compare broadband prices. This site only lists six companies. Seeing as there are over 60 different broadband suppliers in the UK, you are not going to be able to compare very much by only looking at six of them (all with affiliate links). This list doesn't even include the free broadband package with Sky, or Talk Talk. So it's not even listing details of the cheapest deals out there.

This looks like it may be a bit of self promotion for their own recently registered site...............

Far better to use a respected and independent site like http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps.html
