    Just think how amusing it will be if it is still on next year this time for less than what you offered to begin with.

    Today's market is a gamble, but many people don't like gambling with their most expensive asset. Those who 'deal,' usually have a definite and pressing need to move; in my case it was simply being too old to defer the rest of my life.

    I didn't really want to sell my house for the price I accepted, but weighing the odds, I decided that it was a good gamble to do that. Other people living in my area, which is quite desirable, put their houses on the market and, when they didn't get the response they wanted, took them off again. I'm now renting one of those houses!

    'Fortune favours the brave,' so I think I'll still emerge from this in a far better position, but I don't know that for certain. It's all about people's perception of risk.

    I like the idea of buying a house being like deal or no deal. Would Noel Edmonds make a good ea? (No, he doesn't wear fat ties.)

    The problem is that you rarely know other people's circumstances. If they just would 'like' to move and an offer comes in a third below their asking price then they are not going to accept it. They will stay where they are. I would. I think the real bargain that people are looking for are either repo's, or buying from people that HAVE to move. By that I mean splitting up, not people who would just like another bedroom.

    We have our house on the market but we dont HAVE to sell. I am not insisting on the asking price, how on earth would I achieve that but as another poster mentioned, we are not going to gamble on our most valuable asset. House selling/buying is stressful enough in a good market, we had a tentitive offer on our house but the potential buyers havent sold their house, in fact it isnt even on the market so the offer is pretty pointless.
  • sorry you were unsuccessful, It will probably be worth less than that what you offered next year and still be up for sale and you'll end up with a nicer larger house.

    I'm in total agreement and will tell you my little story. We viewed a house in October 2006, up for £355,000. Liked it and wanted to go back for a second viewing. Prior to getting a second viewing the vendor took it off the market staing that 'she didn't like people being in her house looking round'. Don't know about you but I'm disinclined to buy a house just because it looks nice on the outside.

    Subsequently, we moved elsewhere. Fast foward to September 2007 and it's back on the market for £445,000. Nothing done to it to warrant the increase and vastly overpriced. Not just in my opinion but in others too, obviously as it sat on the market for nearly a year, slowly but steadily dropping in price (I was being very nosey and keeping an eye on it!). Last time I looked, it was down to 'in the region of £300,000'. An incredible drop.

    I didn't bother looking after that but I assume it did sell as I drive past it every day and work is being done to it.

    I bet they're kicking themselves they didn't let a few more people in at the beginning...
    It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?
