Made "cheeky offer" today, and now I'm pacing the floor!

Be interesting. Sounds that sort of situation where they don't stand a chance but, if the owners have half a brain they may possibly go out and see if they can offer similarly on a smaller property without anyone living in it.
My money is on a quick no, or a longer decision making process with a possible yes, depending on what new property they find.0 -
If it's been on for 18 months and they haven't dropped the price whatsoever, it sounds as if the vendor isn't actually in a hurry to move, and could perhaps happily sit tight for another 5 years...
So I'll put my money on the offer being rejected.
(good luck tho...)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Anyone else thinking the OP is now p*ssed on champagne and forgot to update us?

Suze
I wish
2 reasons why not:
1) Still no response!?!
2) Having ahem overindulged a tad over Christmas, we're off the booze for January - 14 days and counting
Of course if they did come back with a positive answer we may have to give in and break out the bubbly
Sorry everybody, this is getting a bit tedious! What on earth are these people up to? If the agent hasn't been able to get hold of them, shouldn't he have called us by now to let us know that, at least? If they're playing mind games it's working (except that we still won't up our offer)!0 -

We're in West London, but I think it's the same all over the South East (and probably other places too). Probably still too early to make those low offers, but you just never know, someone may desperately want to move and cut the process short

Hang tight. They'll be weighing up the options. I assume the EA has given them the "good offer and it won't be repeated" speech so who knows.
Got my fingers crossed for you.0 -
Good luck. Have to say I would be chasing the EA by now and putting some pressure on for a decision......Boo!:rotfl:0

Nah just play it calm. You appear too keen they think you'll up your offer.0

I'm feeling the tension so you must be even worse :rotfl:Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

Here is the ironic bit: the EA led us to believe that it's owned by a couple who have raised their family in it and now want to downsize. Among other things he said that "they've owned it for a long time and don't have much of a mortgage on it, so they can afford to wait for the right buyer." BUT, interestingly, rightmove shows that it was last sold in 2004. Guess how much they paid for it? Exactly the amount that we had already decided to offer! What are the chances that they'll accept the same price that they gave for it 5 years ago
Always worth a try isn't it
. My brother in law bought his flat in London in 2003 and paid £5k less than the previous owner did 2 years earlier (and the previous owner had work done to it!). Prices all over the country have been slowly declining for over 7 years now. It's only the scaremongering in the press which makes it seems as though it's all coming to a head now.
It's always worth asking. They can say no. There's nothing stopping you coming back with a higher offer if you really think it's worth it. Websites like https://www.houseprices.co.uk are a god send as now we can find out what people paid to see if a house is really worth what people are asking!0 -
And the most surprising people are well aware of how easily you can find this stuff out.
We have been seriously considering a house in a local village (despite the objections of many MSE-ers, it's still "a possibility"). When talking to neighbours - which wasn't difficult, they positively leapt out at us - it was clear that they all knew exactly what every house in the row had sold for, and which people had paid a lot (or rather, which sellers had 'done well') and so forth. And they admitted how they knew.
