Is it ok to put more than one amount in how many times a day like 3-4 times a day or or 2-4 times a day rather than 2 times a day or 4 times a day as sometimes it varies?

Yes Lady K. If something happens 10 times a day you write that (one of my questions was how many time do you need to climb the stairs to go to the toilet - or something like that, so I wrote up to 10 times a day). If there is a fluctuation in how many times something happens, write between x - y times a day.

I don't know if you've got time for this now, but I also wrote out a complete list of symptoms, plus triggers, plus a daily routine - how long it took me to do various things (like have a shower and get dressed) and how long I'd have to rest afterwards before I could do anything else, etc) That way you don't have to worry about your writing getting too small to read - you could just give a short answer on the form, with "see paragraph x for further details". Would that help you a bit? DWP are quite happy for you to send in extra sheets as a supporting statement. In case you're wondering - it's worked for me for the past 3 renewals. Good luck.

Thanks again I still havent finished it yet I'm about halfway through the book but still have to go back and complete 2 pages I struggled with more. If I have time I will do one of those daily routines too. I'm going to test print out a page to see what the size of the print comes out like before I carry on
    Thanx

Hi, you shouldnt be scared to claim and as you said you struggle to get 100metres, the best place to get your forms filled out are your local welfare rights, some even come to your home. They will help you from start to finish and take the stress off your shoulders, yes over 90% is rejected but i was told by an independent advisor that 70% are overturned, so you really have nothing to lose, good luck. Goog luck mum2one :)

I'm STILL filling in my form, I never thought it would be this bad. I think I'm getting into more of a mess than most people though by the sounds of it. I'm trying to get it finished today but Im only half way through the form. I started to check each page over and adjust it if needed then print off each page as its done so then I know they are done and I can see them there. If I ever had t apply again I would probably find it easier though after this.

I'm hoping that my printer wont run out of ink as its running low and I still have a lot to print.

Daughter is going to do me a statement but thats not done yet either. Given up on the doctors for hospital letters so I'm going to call the hospital today and see if theres any chance I might be able to get a copy sent to me today if I'm lucky
    Thanx

  • Lady K, be sure to keep a copy of the form once you've completed it. If you run out of ink, you can usually get things photocopied at the Post Office. Apart from anything else, it's unusual to get an indefinite award first time round, so the copies will make it easier for you when you come to renewing it.

The phone is constantly engaged at the hospital so the dla will also have problems getting through as thats the number to the dept, I'll keep trying though.

I was concerned about the statement from my daughter as I explained she does not know about some of my problems and conditions so I thought it might seem odd to dla her not mentioning things. But she has told me what she has put so far and I was shocked because she has put things that are right. I was quite taken aback because I thought wow she obviously sees much more than I realised. She said its quite obvious to anyone that I should have been getting this for years but I'm still worried about having a doctors visit. She said that she has put what getting the dla money would do for me and how I would use it and in what ways it would benefit mel. I was surrised she put that, Is it a good idea that she should put that?
    Thanx

  • 90% of DLA claims are rejected? Is that true? Oh my gosh that is awful. I was lucky then. I had my claim accepted within 5 weeks (have IPF) with HRM and MRC.

Don't be scared to apply - if you are entitled to it then you are entitled to it, end of story. Just be sure to give them as much info as possible.

Sorry but total tosh. About 50% of new claims are rejected. The figures for renewals disallowed are much much lower. About 15% of claimants ask for a recon and about half of them go on to ask for an appeal.

Its great what she has put in, for situations such as claiming benefit the more information you give the better - what a lot of people do when claiming - and I have done this myself, is people downplay their illness(s) and peopel with fluctuating conditions are best saving filling forms out until theyre having a "Bad Day" you always need to give examples of when youre at your worst - obviusly when your on a good day, you tend to downplay. Also if its a bit embarrasing, people wont put it on the form when you should. if you have days when you cant get to the loo on your own - tell them.

I'd suggest that if you have such a bad relationship with your GP - change. you are entitled to change GP's and also, you can request home visits - in addition to that, if youre on regular medications, many Chemists - Boots in particular have a collection service and they will also deliver, so you need not leave the house to get medications... I would advise you to try and attend as many consultatn appointments as possible, that way, your condition(s) are documented and this makes claiming for DLA and other benefits a LOT easier and more straight forward (and less likely to be rejected) if you have official "proof" of your condition which is what DLA and so forth are really looking for. ;)
