Why not start now and fill it in in pencil one page at a time, have a little break and then go back and do another page, if you break it down into small steps it wont seem so bad. Or, you could fill in the easy bits first. Even the longest journey starts with the first step and you've got nothing to loose by having a go.
Another way is to get someone like welfare rights CAB to fill in the bits you can do without being embarrassed and then type your own letter to send with it putting down that stuff - the people who decide have to look at all the information you send and only you will know what you've said in your letter - the form is just to streamline it a bit. I put a letter in with my MIL's claim and they took notice of what I said.
No, DLA doesn't cover gardening unless it's an example of not being able to bend etc. The benefit is mostly to do with basic human needs such as washing yourself, feeding yourself and your toilet needs which we all have! so don't worry about it. The other area covered is about being a danger to yourself or others but I guess if you look after grandkids that wont apply.night questions put 3 it triggers a certain response and how often responses of 20 minutes trigger another response etc.
Please ignore this so called advice from Bob Mc and fill in the form carefully and truthfully. The people who decide the claims have a lot of experience and aren't daft.0 -
Thankyou mum2one and marg
Yes I thought about filling it in in pencil first and once I start it should be ok my handwriting is difficult to read though but I'll just have to write it bigger.
When you fill the forms in online does it go through automatically page by page or could I type it in, print it then attach it to my form with the date on and send it?
My grandchildren are now 12 and 15 but the 12yr old has adhd and other things which can be problematic to say the least but they can look after themselves mostly. One of them will be coming later to stay overnight so whatever I do it will have to be done before he comes, I may make a little start though. No I'm not a danger to myself or others.
I asked about the gardening because I have a fairly big garden which I cannot do myself it also is surrounded by 8ft privet hedging all the way around. I do have to pay someone to do it all and just wondered if it was worth putting it on the form or not. I can go out onto the garden but it is very rare and only if someone is with me I have to sit down and cannot do gardening. I have to be extremely careful I once fell on my front driveway and was there for 45 minutes before some people came by and were able to help me up.Thanx

As long as you download it to YOUR computer you can fill it in, then print it, & send BOTH forms to them with a letter. See below from their website
Sorry about this big print - can't change it!
<H4>Download a claim form to complete on your computer
</H4>
You can complete a claim form on your computer. We recommend that you save the form on your computer before completing it: to do this simply right click with your mouse on the link below and choose the 'Save Target As' option. You cannot save the form once you've opened it in an internet browser.
Once you've completed the form, you can print and sign it. Please note that the on-screen forms do not apply in Northern Ireland.
I wouldn't bother saying about the garden in itself they CAN'T take into account that it's big or small or that you have to pay someone to do it for you otherwise lots of people would try to get DLA for their garden!!! IYSWIM.
BUT you could tell them that you find it hard to move round & have to sit down often (If that's the case)0 -
Thankyou marg thats really great! I tested it out as I thought I know wouldnt do the whole thing at one time so wanted to save it as I go along and I think it does do that just like saving word files so that is a great help. Much easier to fill in and change if I do it wrong and legible at least. That will help me a lot as I find it easier to type than write.
I wont say anything about the garden I just wondered if I should be doing thats all. I feel almost bad applying though even though I know myself I do have real problems I know I am also luckier than a lot of other people who cannot do anything for themselves. I just feel they will reject my claim but having got this far I will try as other people have told me I should have been claiming for a long time.Thanx

My handwriting is virtually unreadable even to myself but I don't tell people even close family some of the problems I have so asking someone to write it for me isnt going to work. I did think about doing the online application but wasn't sure if once youve completed a page you cant go back to it and that put me off. I'd want to check it all through before finally letting it go. Has anyone done an online application for DLA?
I download the forms to fill in on my own PC as my handwriting deteriorates very quickly. However... I print the forms out and send them via recorded delivery with a hand-written note accompanying them (extra evidence!).Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I started filling in the downloaded form on the pc late last night and was up till about 3 30am. Ive also been filling it in all day today apart from a few small breaks. Its taking longer than I thought as its a lot to think about and some questions ask very similar questions but in a slightly different way. I keep going back and adding bits or taking away but at least its easier to do it on the pc than the paper one.
Its made me think about things as I'm writing them and I didnt realise I'd have so much to say
In the person that knows you bit it says what are their disabilities and how does this affect them so as I don't want my daughter to know some of it I probably wont be asking her to write on it. Plus I've had to put some personal stuff on the form and wouldnt want people knowing those things so it might have to go blank but it is better filled in isnt itThanx

Suggest you print out the page to be filled in by someone who knows you and let your daughter or anyone else fill that in. I had a friend who is a teacher fill it in as well as a proffessional and sent both in. That way they dont see your entire form & if you dont like what they like you simply dont send it.0 -
