POSSIBLE tesco bargain - any bottle of wine for 9pounds?

  • In my store tonight the offer is at the end of an aisle in a fridge section. There are a couple of bottles of wine in the fridge with the offer and various mains, sides and desserts. The offer does say ANY main, ANY side, ANY dessert and ANY bottle of wine so presumably you wouldn't have to stick to the meals with the offer signs or the wines. Didn't try it tonight as we don't drink wine and I couldn't be bothered with cs in the evening but I may try with different meal choices as I didn't think much of the ones in the fridge.
  • Harriet, in the store I went to, they said it was ONLY that stuff, never mind that the signs say ANY and someone on the shop floor said ANY.

PPS I genuinely MUCH prefer M&S food anyway, and am now reverting to ONLY buying reduced/special offer items from Tesco.

You might be a little disappointed if you happen to pass one of the factories that churns out ready meals, deserts, mains, sides etc to the same recipes, on the same production lines and just put different labels/cardboard sleeves on them. Sometimes you will even see the wrong company's name printed on the plastic lid!

There's one of these very factories just up the road from me - supplies Asda, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco with the same stuff.

This was my point exactly. The entertainment part comes from people who "roll up their sleeves" before coming into the store.

The entertainment actually comes from the type of staff that make you feel like you have to roll up you sleeves before dealing with them.

As Flickering Ember's experience earlier shows, some CS staff seem to consider it their position not to honour company policy wherever possible or only apply it as they see fit.

Company policy is company policy, it shouldnt be applied at CS staff discretion as to wether the customer is "genuine" or not.

That said, I do know some stores with excellent CS staff who give DtD without question and without being prompted, these are real Customer SERVICE staff and have my respect. It just so happens that the store I was intending to visit yesterday has a rubbish customer service team made up of women that would rather give you their firstborn son than Dtd and will argue til they are blue in the face over a Dtd (and used to with R&R too) and I also know from experience that their blue face quite quickly turns red after speaking to head office and over-riding them.

Just as you seem to get entertainment from dealing with customers like me, I get a kick out of dealing with CS staff and managers that try to refuse to use their own policy.

The difference between us is that in the majority of cases the customer will win the arguement in the end. I've dealt with your type of manager in the past and I've no doubt that I will again, I had one count out £180 for a PSP on R&R through gritted teeth after being told to refund me by head office for me to smile and walk around the corner and pick up two mispriced stereos and get R&R on those too, luckily he was fully aware of how to apply the R&R policy on the stereos after just being told by head office how it works.

If he had just given the R&R in the first place and not acted like such a pompous idiot I wouldnt have cared about the stereos, I only got them as sport, just to see the look on his face, after that everytime I went in that store he had me followed by security and a member of staff with a pricing gun, he would check the price of anything I picked up or anything I gave more than a passing glance to. It was quite funny really as I used to lead them on a right goose chase around the store checking prices on random things while my OH popped in and got the R&R unchallenged (maybe because she is a woman and "Looks genuine")

If staff think they can gain entertainment from customers the way you obviously do then you should only expect for some of them to find entertainment in it too, in fact it makes it all the more entertaining when you have trading standards on your side.

CG19a - I was a stock controller for Tesco years ago, it is tricky to keep the store stocked, especially on fresh food. Everything is generally against you. I had some entertainment with the odd customer who I disliked, there was one who would always linger waiting for me to reduce a certain bread product, so I usually didnt until she had left.

And thereby is the problem in a nutshell.
Tesco staff blatantly hate their customer and try not to serve them well. Whereas in Sainsbury last week when I put an item that was earmarked for reduction in my basket the SA stopped me and reduced it. With that attitude it is a win-win situation.

Andyrules - I worked there 8 years, served and liked many customers so please dont jump on 1 occasion to state I hate all customers. I always went out of my way to help, following up by calling customers at home when I couldnt obtain the answer, checking for stock, rummaging around in freezers looking for stuff etc. Its the same in any contact situation - you be nice to me, I'll be nice to you.

I wouldnt say its win win for Sainsburys Shareholders.

TESCO ALTRINCHAM - I checked tonight and the POS does say ANY WINE but they have put some blue tape over the ANY leaving it as just wine. They have then filled the fixture with 1 red and 1 white and put a manual POS up saying offer applies to products only from this fixture - so no opportunity to take advantage.

However I did see they have today put on 25% off all suits, so I rebought the one I got on Saturday and will take Saturdays back to get the discount, so £15 better off - Thanks you Mr Tesco.
  • The CS at Tesco Old Swan were really lovely to me when I needed them once before (it was just to refund one item which msut have fallen into my pile on the checkout from the customer behind), so I naturally went there first; all the staff I met were nice, whereas Allerton Road, both CS women and their manager were horrible and some of the floor staff are a bit curt too. From now on, it's only Old Swan, unless a friend finds something worthwhile in Allerton to justify me giving them my custom.

Read all of page one and skipped to page nine! Anything exciting happen between 1 and 9?

Can we have a bottle of Champers in this deal? If not, I'm off to seek help from my counsellor as I feel hurt by Tesco.

For goodness sake, some on here need to get a life and get real:o They made an error, get over it. If you managed to 'get away with it', well done. If not, tough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps, I LOVE tesco staff. I shop there once a week and have a smile and banter from every checkout member of staff I come in contact with. Old saying I learnt from my gran, 'treat others as you want to be treated'. Works well for me;)

    Congratulations Tesco!

My local store has gone for the simple option. Remove all the puddings therefore voiding the offer. Or am I just being sceptical?

I'd found a lovely £30+ bottle of wine too!

To be fair, most of the people that would have got one probably wouldnt post on here saying so, Tesco staff read this forum as you can see and misprices like this are a surefire way of bring attention to yourself.
