It's about when Tesco overcharge you. Say the shelf label says £1.50 and you are charged £2.00 at the checkout. Their policy is to give you back double the difference. (in this case difference = 50p double the difference = £1). In some cases it can mean you get the item for free or that they pay you to take the item away.

    It's only a game

HELP PLEASE with a DTD, I was overcharged by 4.13 today on two items each, they SEL stated £2.15 each and they scanned at £6.19, went to customer services who did not have a problem with giving me DTD but i am confused, i paid £12.38 when i should have been charged £4.30. However i was only given £16.52 back and i still paid the full price for each item - is this correct or should they have refunded me the £12.38 and charged me the £4.30 the items should have cost me and also the £16.52, as i was only given £4.14 back as i still paid £6.19 for each item - how is that double to difference i was still charged the incorrect price. confused.com

    Any feed back appreciated
  • I'm a bit confused with your figures. If the SEL stated £2.15 & you bought two of them, you should have been charged £4.30 and if they both scanned at £6.19 then you paid £12.38 so £12.38 takeaway £4.30 equals an overcharge of £8.08 so double that means you should have got £16.16 back so by my reckoning you got 36p more back than you should have! Thats most probably because it was the blind leading the blind on CS today ! until they called the super and she sorted it out. I thought that they should have issued me a refund on the overcharged items rescanned at the correct price and given me DTD - but thats just me being stupid really. so i made £4.?? out of my trip to Tesco today, better than nothing i suppose.

    Thanks for your quick response.

Did a shop, paid and wifey checked the receipt and it didn't look right. £81.xx for a £34.xx shop!

There was a blank inch at the top of receipt (don't they normally have the Tesco logo there?) so we guessed that we had paid for the person in front's shopping.

This was the last straw (won't bore you here but another 10 issues in the store) and went to Customer Services. Got them to agree to a refund but they wouldn't pay DD since it was a technical error (rubbish - it was human error), and that was not what the policy was about and told me to call Head Office if I didn't agree.

Got even madder when the girl left me on hold for 20mins and then said she agreed with the store Customer Services manager, refused to put it writing and said it was her final decision and that was that.

I read the wording of the promise and there is no way it shouldn't apply: the price of the groceries at the shelf was £34.xx and we got charged £81.xx at the till. The wording only mentions overcharging, not the reason for overcharging.

Should I pursue this or just leave it at the river?

    Cheers
    Simon

I have to say that I would not bank on getting DTD for this. You were not overcharged for something you bought, you were charged for someone else's shopping.

That said, an email to the CEO of Tesco's would not go amiss, especiallly with the other issues as well. Might also be worth a phone call to HO - phone numbers are 0800505555 and 01382822700.

    Good luck.
