Tesco Double the Difference Policy Discussion

There have been several instances recently where r&r have been given, however our resident helper advises that there has been no policy reverse, I suspect some stores may be using in because their staff have so much difficulty calculating dtd on catchweight products. If they are displaying r&r though they must honour it, if displaying both then whichever is to YOUR best advantage must be employed.
This is something that goes with the territory I'm afraid.
EXACTLY SO, Ben - they cannot do it.
They can do little even with calculator, let alone without - I despair.
No, I don't:rolleyes: - I just pocket the refund:DCAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Now I'm a little confused. I was in my local store today (Stornoway...store has been there for 7 months) and I bought a large bag of pistachio nuts. SEL was £4.99, charged £7.49. When I went to CS they offered me the difference only...but I pointed out to them that the T&Cs beside them said "in the unlikely event we overcharge you, we'll give you your money back and you get to keep the product". Now I said, that they should be giving me £7.49....as giving me £2.50 meant I'd just bought the item...and lucky me, was getting to keep the product too!
So the manager came along and said that we usually give double, but pointed out that the T&Cs said different (and the staff on CS said they had been told to only ever pay out the difference....ggggrrrrr!!). So to stop me getting irate, as there were other customers at CS, the manager gave me £7.49 out of the till plus product.
Now I'm really confused, because I remember when R&R was the policy before, but I thought that it had been changed. If it's double the difference now, it would seem very odd that a new store would be displaying R&R T&Cs? I fully expect the T&Cs to *disappear* by the time I'm next in, but it really annoys me when Tescos make me feel like the thief when I'm just asking them to honour their promise!! Is this a mistake in Stornoway? Is the policy now R&R?
It's so annoying as well that they have been telling their staff (new staff!!!) to only give the difference and cheat customers out of what they are due!! I've a right mind to write to the local newspaper!!

OK, can somebody help me with Tesco DTD please? Was in Tesco, Boston, and noticed on the SEL £29.97 to £12.48 now £6.24. I checked the scanner and it scanned at £12.48!! (woo hoo!!!)
Although there was approx 20 of these things on display i picked up 4 and went and paid. I was charged £49.92 for four.
I ponted out it is on the SEL at £6.24 and I followed the staff member to the SEL and it was confirmed and the SEL removed.
The staff member refunded me my £49.92 and gave me the items for free, but i THINK this is wrong (i even spoke with the manager who said items free that is all).
Policy was on display and stated "in the event you are overcharged, we will double the difference". No mention of keeping the product as well.
My working out is:
DTD of £6.24 and £12.48 = £6.24. doubled = £12.48 per item.
I had 4 items = £49.92
I was given the four items, so £6.24 x 4 = £24.96
So £49.92 - £24.96 = i should have had the four items free AND £24.96 cash
Is this right or am i being a numpty??!!!0 -

I afraid I would be inclined agree. You were over charged £6.24 per item, doubled= £12.48 (per item) multiply times 4 because of the 4 items= £49.92 refund plus items. You don't get refund the £6.24 that was displayed as the price, as that is 'what you thought you would be paying' IYSWIM?
I think what you are calculating is that you have made a £24.96 profit from the overall transaction. HTH0 -
Does anyone know if Tesco are still doing DTD or do you just get a refund of what they've overcharged you?
I was in Tesco this morning and bought 2 jars of Hayward's picallili (on offer at £1.00 instead of £1.48 (I think).
The cashier put them through at 2 x £1.00 but left one near the scanner.
She then put 4 x Mitchum anti-perspirant (on offer at £1.00 instead of £2.81) and proceeded to go on about how 'they' think that using anti-perspirant instead of deodorant could lead to breast cancer and on and on.
When she moved the picallili further down towards me it must have scanned again as when I checked my receipt, it had charged me £2.00 for the 2 picallilis (correct), £4.00 for the 4 anti-perspirants (correct) and £1.00 for a non existant picallili.
I went to Customer Services, it took her ages to sort the refund out and she gave me £1.00.
When I asked if it shouldn't be £2.00 because of DTD, she said no.
I couldn't see a notice about DTD and was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't query it.
Thanks0 -

This seems to be different in every store - many stores will give you DTD on a double scan (I once had a free crate of cider!) - but some will argue and refuse it as it is a cashier error rather than a computer error - in my mind it's still an overcharge whichever way you look at it and worth arguing over if it's a big one!0 -
Not sure on Tescos actual policy but i've only ever just had a refund on a doublescan0

What you describe is a double scan - would (or should) not get you double the difference, just a straight refund (plus apology hopefully).
Double the difference would apply if the price indicated was lower than that charged ie. if you had been charged £1.48 against a £1.00 SEL you would receive .96 against each one (then a straight refund for the "phantom" one).
You have been refunded correctly.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
Hi all,
I got overcharged for a grocery shop today so whilst the delivery driver was here i called the 0845 number to ask whether or not they would refund so i could send the items back. They said they'd refund the difference. When I asked about double the difference, they said it didn't apply to online orders.
Is this correct?0 -

DtD does not apply to on line orders. CS were correct."Life was easier when I didn't have a clue"0
