I too hate those who leave their Dogs mess, I notice it alot now when walking mine, we don't have many red bins but that's no excuse! I may well e-mail the council to ask for more bins though anyway. I also worry about off lead Dogs coming up to us, but we mostly walk on roads so so far we're ok.
  • I have been posting on the other thread! But basically she is not to blame, her behaviour is very natural/normal given the circumstances BUT being a responsible owner means that you have to ensure that she is not at liberty unsupervised.

No reason why it would, it's a dog that has come onto the OP's dogs territory by the sound of it, many dogs would do the same, kids don't need to come into EVERY discussion about Dogs surely?!
  • Can I just say, re the picking up of dog mess ... if only owners could spare a few seconds ... that's all it takes ... to scoop the blooming stuff up, it would make it better for everyone .. for kids, parents and for other dog walkers too. Well, those of us who DO tidy up after our dogs.

When I had two greyhounds, I used to take a handshovel in a carrier bag with me to dispose of their mess ... *LOL* (thankfully I now have a chihuahua so I can manage with little waste bags!!)

As with all problems with animals (any animals!) it comes down to the owners. If you are a responsible, considerate owner then we wouldn't see a fraction of the problems listed on here that arise when people don't keep their animal under control or consider other people!!

There has to be give and take, respect and consideration between pet owners and non-pet owners, but I can quite understand some peoples' points of view when they meet up with pet owners who aren't being responsible.

There are some in the local town here, who ride their horses on a narrow pavement in front of terraced houses. The poor occupants can't possibly get out of their front door without stepping in it.
Don't really see why it's acceptable for cats, though not preventable. But not good to gloat, not all are animal lovers. Why should those who don't want a pet have to suffer those who do?

There are rare occasions when it's impossible to pick up after my dog, going under a low, dense bush in the woods for instance. It's the messing on or at the side of paths, even woodland ones that I object to. Not only is it unsightly but the feeling of stepping in it, you just know it's not mud If all pet owners acted in a responsible manner, there wouldn't be such extreme views.
Sorry OP for going off topic. As Tiger and FC say, seek out dog training classes, you could then progress to agility and/or flyball. The dogs love it and it's great exercise charging round a field trying to keep up.:D

To dwileflunker. Make sure you never get a dog. I knew someone so much like you. He could never understand my devotion to mine until he caved in and got a Choccie Lab for his partner. The dog ended up coming to work with him everyday as she became the centre of their lives. Resist at all costs, or they will win your heart.
Oh! and dwilefunker. There's not much point spouting on this thread, we are all responsible pet owners here, those who aren't, such as the poster expecting her puppy not to mess the home in the first week are soon "seen off" . WOOF!!

Tiger, when I was a child, we lived on the route for exercising the Household Cavalry. Tons of poo!
Not much traffic then, so I would be ordered off, with a shovel and bucket to "pick up "for the Marrow growing. Oh, happy days.

omg i'd've loved it! lolllll aww @ you being the one to clear it up! I agree it should be if possible, someone once suggested some kind of bucket attached to the horse (Well, bag) to catch it in! That could work (I have visions of the horse then bucking & it going all over the rider)
