  • Thanks to everyone on here, I'm so much more positive. I contacted the Christians Against Poverty group on friday and they have been fab. A lady from there that has a bit of legal training is coming to my house in the morning to help me draft the letter to explain my husband not working. I've got an appointment with CAB on Friday to also talk everything over.

I've started looking at other places in my area to rent- I know that I could move away for a totally fresh start, But after thinking about it my daughter and step son have gone through so much unsettlment already over Christmas with their dad going away I don't want to then uproot them from nursery/college.

Anyhoo, my tax credits have gone in today and with the back payment that came with it I can pay this months rent without leaving me too short for living expenses- I think my biggest expense at the moment is blooming public transport :p If I do get turned down again at least I have got 6 weeks to play with in respect of finding a new place.

I'll keep you all updated :T

Yes, I've already done the council tax and I've budgeted for my other direct debits that are due to come out.

    alternatively

You get evicted for non-payment of rent and throw yourself at the mercy of the council. As you have a young chid I think they'd have to find somewhere for you, but it could initially be a bedroom in a house with shared facilties (a long-distance friend of mine went through this last year with two young boys). They then found her a house (not sure if council, housing association or private rental) about 3 months later.
Please be very careful about not paying your rent and then approaching the council for housing as in my experience the council will say you have made yourself 'intentionally homeless'.

Are you sure that nothing appeared in your local paper regarding the court case, as its unusual of it not to be covered in the local press.
  • Hi Tiggs239- No there were reporting restrictions put upon both the trial and the sentencing, so nothing appeared in the papers locally to me. Also the crown court that the trial was held in is not the local fed court, it's quite a way away.

Well today a great lady form CAP come just as she said she would and helped me draft a letter to housing. It really helped as she was so much more objective than I was. Social services have given me a bit of a problem, saying that they never actually told me I could not work last year. The lady from CAP spoke to them and made it clear that although SS did not tell me I could not work, they did tell me that I was not to leave the children in my husbands care- and seeing that I have got no family or support network around this area, It was not financially viable for me to work as all of my wages would be going on childcare.

One step at a time- hopefully the 2 letters will be in to housing by the end of this week and I should have a yey or ney by the end of next week. One step at a time- I've got a scan In the morning and I'm going to find out what sex my baby is :j

I thought I had some cr** to deal with but it turns out a walk in the park compared to you. I take my hat off to you. A friend is a friend who sticks by you no matter what, just remember that.
I know you are against the idea of moving, and i can understand your reasons. On the flip side you appear to be living in an expensive area. You say your mum lives 200miles away, which could possibly be a cheaper area for starters, and maybee a chance for you to make a fresh start and have support close at hand which you will need when new baby arrives. I don't know what i would have done had i not had my parents at hand. It would also get you out of the situation regarding the help with your rent.
    Hope all went well today
    take care .
