To be fair, it's only a small number of individuals but MY GOD are they vocal  And it's sort of gotten to the point on here that these people are so entrenched in their views (and bolstered by their equally vocal virtual mates) that they can see absolutely no positive in the company. It's not as if the energy industry (especially the Big 6) is exactly the most respected in the country but these people seem happy enough to pay their money to one of the Big 6 without so much as a whimper or criticism but reserve their venom for a relative tiddler in the industry. Which I do find strange but I'm not a psychiatrist so can't pass real judgment.
If UW are cheaper for you and all the comparison sites are telling you that, then go with UW. They do have approaching 250,000 customers, have recently been admitted into the FTSE-250 and all done with NO advertising so they must be doing something right. It's not as if you are tied into them at all.Call me Carmine....

On cost: be aware that UW quotes prices excluding VAT, while other energy companies quote prices for domestic consumers that are VAT-inclusive.
On service: avoid like the plague.0 -

What, even on the widely available independent switching sites? On service: avoid like the plague.
As a matter of interest, which energy company would you recommend for 'service'? As I switch 4 times a year I have experience of most of the Big 6 and genuinely couldn't recommend ANY of them for 'service', exactly.Call me Carmine....

To be fair, as I said earlier, their economy 7 rates per kWh are competitive.
However they charge(for Manweb heavy user) £8.18 a month(plus VAT)(£103pa) on that tariff with no discounts for DD. (I believe they charge 10% extra if you want to pay by cheque)0 -

I would beg to differ - SP are positively fantastic compared to the absolute shambles that is British Gas. Like I hinted at earlier, IME (fairly extensive) the energy industry's Big 6 offer some of the worst customer service in the UK.Call me Carmine....

I'd come under standard user which is £4 a month. Scottish power charge £6. somthing standing charge0 -
I'm with UW and have been since august, i live in a 1 bed room flat, with wife and 2 dogs, i have taken out elec, gas and broadcall laptop my monthly bills are on average £75. with that split down is approx £16 a month for gas, approx £12 a month for electric and the broadcall laptop package(warranty on the laptop until i/if i decide to cancel my package after 2 yr contract) is on average £40, i pay around £2 a month for silver membership which gives me free calls to their customer services and broadband support numbers and also a free life insurance policy.
I'm not a distributor, i have not got any friends or family to join up nor do i work for them in any other capacity, but from my experience, their customer services are excellent, always polite and all my problems have been fully resolved with one call, their bills are cheaper than any other company i have been with.
