  • Hi,

I would like your advice on popping down to Washington DC while we are staying in NYC.

We are going to NYC on Sun 12 April landing at 13.30 and then leave on Thurs 16 April at 21.30

I've seen a package for around £100 each for a coach trip to DC and then a tour. From reading reviews it takes 4 hours to get there, you have 4 hours in DC and then 4 hours back. I've checked out the train times and it is around 3hours 20. For $288 from the AMtrak website.

It is our first time in NYC so I wonder if we will really have enough time to do this - with everything there is to see and do. I may have answered my own question but I would like any advice you guys have.

    Thanks
  • Yep flew from Manc with Delta.
Wellington Hotel is nice but think it would make sense to stay out of times sq. As pointed out on here before, its so much more expensive around here, we tend to hop on the subway and head down lower east or around for brekkie or just walk a few blocks away.
End up in a very odd Chinese restaurant the other day, it was in some block of offices next to a room selling very expensive coats chained to railings:confused:
The subway is fantastic and easy to use. Although if you cant afford the theatre go on the subway at 2am from Soho. Excellent entertainment from very drunk and crazy people, one mexican woman screaming at a pillar whilst smoking (yes, in the underground), last night I got serenaded by a man with a massive Yamaha keyboard. I had to give him money purely for the fact that he got people to clap along and sing with him and also dance!
I love that round every corner something is happening.

    Hi
Just a quickie about your flights - I am flying Man to JFK on Delta soon - how small was that placne????? did you get back seat TVs??
    Enjoy rest of your hol

Well it was small but not stupidly so. We had tv's on the back of our seats too, they go around quite often with food and drink so you wont go hungry.

that second paragraph about times square being so expensive, i have to say.. music to my ears.... :D...

as for Delta from Manc.. any good? bad? indifferent? i flew from gatwick with them last year, and thought they were really good, going in 6 weeks or so with them from manc myself

Yeah Delta was okay, you have your own telly, they keep you well fed etc. Not the happiest bunch of hostesess though, faces like smacked !!!!!!.
We did land just at the same that the plane crashed into the Hudson, have you had that on the news in England?
Off to central park today and hunt for buffalo wings. Yum.

I had some great ones in a bar on the upper east side called the bullpen (a sports bar)...it was on 1st avenue near 88th street, but I'm sure there are some nearer to where you are :D

Glad to hear you're having a great time - I loved the subway too - there were some comedy moments ;)

Yep we also had some quite funny ones...some great music and one drugged up guy at 42nd street trying to hump the machine - yep literally was trying to mount it and having a good thrust!
With MarkyMoo suggestions I would go with Reade St Pub cheaper beer and decent food as I didnt rate Mudville 9 much very overpriced.

Yeah I can confirm the Delta women are scary - someone nearly started an air rage incident on my return flight...they gave it to her - properly shouting and everything - it was scary :(

i love reade street pub... and will be visiting again.. it's the kind of pub you can sit at the bar and while the hours away, but also have a fun conversation with anyone from any walk of life... :)

as for the whole "how small the plane is" question with regards to Delta from Manchester.. well it's the same size as every Boeing 757-200, and specifically they are the EX TWA versions that have recently been kitted out with VOD and also standard US 110volt power in the first 10 rows of Cattle Class..

158 seats for us minions, and 16 seats for the rich people!

all the details are here - http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Delta_Airlines/Delta_Airlines_Boeing_757-200_TWA_B.php

also, pretend to book a flight on delta.com's website, and you can see the seating chart for the plane on that day, so you should be able to spot what seats are empty etc...

  • Humping machines!! Thats ace!
We went to Mudsville, I really liked it, interesting selection of ales! Had the wings and ribs platter, feeling about 100 stone heavier now, might have to let out my costume a bit for tonight otherwise ill be the rollypolly side show act.

Its still snowing, got quite heavy today and made walking around central park interesting!

As for the virgin air hostesses, check out a comedian called Pam Ann, she has an interesting sketch on Virgin staff!
