    Im here!
Flight was good, tiny plane but not too packed so me and the otherhalf had a spare seat to lie on.
Spent the afternoon trying not to fall asleep! Walked around times square and Broadway. Going to go do more exploring this morning.
Hotel is a lot nicer than I expected, room is tiny but its clean and warm.
    God its so cold!!!!!

who did you fly with? from manchester?

glad you're enjoy it... if you want a quick pint in a weird kinda bar, head the 47th street / broadway, and wander down to the edison hotel.. the bar there is kinda cool for a quiet drink before the evening really kicks off!!

  • Wishful thinking I know, but....

Apparently we have a 3 hours in New York on our way out to Florida at the end of March. Anyone know if there is any way we can see anything in NY whilst we are there. It is JFK.

I know we won't have much time,(about 60 - 90 minutes?) between immigration and boarding for our next flight, but you never know what might be just around the corner.

Have searched on JFK and airport but didn't find anything

Before Mark has a heart attack from stress:
JFK is one of the busiest airports in the world. What a useless fact you've just read, because you don't want to stay there, you want to get into Manhattan.
At each airport there are a number of different options. Most options stay the same

Taxi - Not the cheapest way, but by sure the easiest. Walk out of the airport, and follow the signs for ground transportation. There is a uniformed taxi dispatcher who will ask you how many passengers, and where you want to go. Cabs cannot pick you up anywhere apart from these designated areas. The beauty about JFK, is you know exactly how much you are going to pay for your cab. $45 plus toll and tip. This is because, going from JFK to Manhattan is a fixed fare. There is nothing extra to pay. The tolls can be up to $4.50, which would then make your fare $49.50, plus a MINIMUM 15% TIP. (Please don't insult the taxi driver with a small tip, us brits already are regarded by New Yorkers as tight/stingy for our supposed small or even no tips.) A Taxi will take up to an hour from JFK to Manhattan.

I got a taxi into Upper East Side in the end and it took 25 mins, but that was on New Years Day - I got driven back and 45 minutes is more like it - but again traffic was light that day - so no you cant get in and back in that time - take a book to read!

Cheers for the advice. I knew it was a long shot, but you never know without asking.

Guess I will just have to spend the money and take Mrs Blink to New York as a proper holiday _pale_

do a sightseeing tour of JFK.... get on the airtrain, which is free between terminals, and travel around...

but to be brutally honest, it could take 60 minutes to change terminals, what with security queues if you have to!!

    *isn't stressed*

Kaz - Mark is the resident NY expert and this is his thread, there are other experts around (Phat and Crabman are two)...

But I think what Mark is trying to say is that with a bit of research you can find the answer to your own questions and make the decision for yourself - there are so many factors - time, cost, convenience etc that we could never know which is the best option for you...

In addition, if Mark answered every question like yours he would never have any life...dont think he was trying to be mean, more encouraging people to look for themselves

Hope thats fair to both of you :D
