Damn I am so confused..looking to go to New York sometime in the next few months..but the whole visa situation is throwing me! I have a passport thats expired so i'll need to apply for a new one shortly..can anyone tell me the process I need to go through? I'll be flying from the UK staying for a few days...I thought maybe the visa waiver program would be acceptable, but even thats confused me now.
Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this!
I'm of the understanding that all passports issued in the UK are the up to date machine readable ones, so if you get a new passport, you should have no problems.
As for the visa waiver, search google for ESTA to find the official website and then just complete the form.
Hope this helps. It's pretty straight forward.Matched betting proceeds so far: £505.000 -
if you have a UK passport you normally are eligible for the Visa Waiver Programme. (VWP)
once you have your new passport, you'll need to fill in an ESTA online, which will instantly tell you if you are eligible to travel under a VWP, this asks the same questions, but at least you'll be without any doubt.
there are a couple of reasons why you might not be able to travel under a VWP, one being having commited a crime of moral turpitude, but the vast majority of people can.
you also fill in a green VWP form on the plane, and a white customs form for declaration.

Question for Markymoo - I am Canadian with a Canadian passport although I have lived in the UK for 30 years. Can you confirm for me (I am starting to get paranoid) that I don't need to have a VWP or ESTA? I did go to the website but couldn't fill anything out since it didn't seem to apply.

yeah... seems like i should charge for my time.. hehe.. naa.. i love NYC and will do anything to help anyone get in there..
as for canadians, no, the VWP/ESTA doesn't apply, it is only for European Citizens. I THINK (and this is a think) that you'll fill in the white I94 visa card and still go through immigration, but i'm not sure - however, you DO NOT need any kind of visa, if you're just going on holiday - http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1260.html#canada
from EWR to Cosmo Hotel
Best way, taxi or car service - try carmel
Cheapest way, train, you theoretically could get the AirTrain through to Newark Liberty International Airport Station, then get to Newark Penn Station, (the stop after Newark Liberty International Airport Station), and then get the Path train to the World Trade Center, and it's a 6 block walk up to the hotel basically. 3 trains though, luggage, walking, after a long flight?! hmm.. not the best way to start the holiday? !0 -

Tribeca and the Cosmo are perfect. Subway right outside and 15mins to Times Square etc. Its a 10 minute walk to South St Seaport, Battery Park, Ground Zero, Financial District. Get a $25 subway pass and all your transportation problems are solved..
Walk across Brooklyn Bridge and back its again only 15-20 minute walk from the hotel.
Some good bars and delis close by the Cosmo. Chinatown/Little Italy about 20 minutes walk.0 -
tribeca is bringing up 3 hotels on expedia...which one do you mean0
