no.. not at all.. I'm going for the following

1 - to walk over the brooklyn bridge
2 - to walk around central park
3 - to sample in excess of 50 different types of beer
4 - to sleep off a huge hangover
5 - to take an internal flight and see washington dc

so unless you class item 3 as shopping, i'm not planning on any really

Have you been to DC before? I really fancy going there.

    I dont shop either :D

I'd rather buy stuff back home - too busy running for shopping when in NY ;)

I would much rather buy stuff here as well but unfortunately what I want isn't available in the sizes and prices I want. We will be a group of elderly ladies and I would envision a fair amount of shopping, a bit of walking and a lot of sitting and staring!:rotfl: I know thats not what would suit everyone, but it will make us happy and of course we are family so we will have a lot of visiting to do, havn't seen them in over 3 years.

  • Hi, a flight from Washington DC to New York is just over an hour if memory serves...I went from DC to New York with a great airline- JetBlue- i honestly can not praise them enough- very cheap and great seats with TV's in the back of all seats even for the short flights.

However, JetBlue only fly into/out of Dulles, whereas others will fly from Ronald Reagan- if you are only going for a day then you probably dont want to waste 45 mins travelling each way to the airport, if you are going for a couple of days then i would check the price of JetBlue in comparison...

Ok.. apart from the fact that my Washington DC thread i made was hijacked by people telling me to sit on a train for 3 hours, or a bus for 4 hours, for a DAY TRIP, i am actually flying.

From JFK - DCA (Ronald Reagan), which is on the metro line in DC, so 15 minutes then into the city.

Cost me £82 for a return flight, with Delta which was cheaper than the train (at a cost of $70 each way), but not as cheap as a bus, but i really couldn't face 4 hours on a bus. Fly at 8am, back at 6pm ish!

Flight time is around 1 hour 35 minutes. I haven't been before as such, been to DCA airport, got off plane, and then boarded another plane within about 5 minutes. Saw some of the pretty Mall (which has nothing to do with shopping!), as we flew out, and I thought it'd be nice to wander around for the day. (and maybe sample a beer!)

So, it's going to be an experience. I'll come on here during my holiday probably and also, if you follow me on twitter, you'll get live updates and photos as i'm wandering around the cities!!

  • In Washington DC, i stayed at The Harrington Hotel, which had some nice bars attatched to it- they are a bit cheesy but quite a nice place- and opposite there is an ESPN bar which is good, but was too expensive for me!
