I'm looking to fly from MAN rather than LON, we all live in the Manchester area.

I'm not really keen on changing flights as this is a short trip. Its a bit of a hassle to collect bags and change terminals and risk delays.

in that case, the price you've found is probably going to be best from MAN... i still stick with a 3month - 6 week rule, so personally i'd start looking June, rather than now.. but that's just me

Thanks, I'm aware of this rule of thumb, however, being realistic - how low can these flights get?

If you can be flexible you can get them for 315 but thats not much less, dont forget the cheap Air France fare is with Delta (which was fine for me but some people dont like them)...the 315 is US airways - going out 24th coming back 29th - you'll find mid week flights are usually a bit cheaper...

aaah, but US changes at PHL, and i've already found £307!!! ;)

as for how low flights can get, realistically, september? cheapest i've got is under £200, but that was a few years ago, around the £250 - £300 mark is doable these days.

pfft.. i flew through heathrow once, and from heathrow another time. hell on earth i call it..

Manchester is much quieter, relaxed, and the beer is cheaper!

gatwick wasn't too bad when i flew from there last year, however, the drive back was awful

I'd love to fly from LCA if it was possible - sooo easy and convient to use and small and coming back in takes 15mins!!! Never any queues - fantastic airport, but I presume too short a runway :o

Never had any problems at heathrow or gatwick tbh - although terminal 4 looks a little worse for wear these days

If you read through this thread, and the previous one, people recommend doing top of the rock for the following reasons

    1 - less queues
2 - less cramped up at the top
3 - iconic photograph containing the empire state building, which people feel is one of the best landmarks in NYC.

if you're on the empire state building, you get a photo without it in!

Just like to add my thoughts on this. I know the view is better from the rock BUT it is my humble opinion that ESB is still something which a lot of people want to do (usually on their first trip to NY). It is probably on most people's must do list and I certainly don't regret doing the ESB - I loved it.
  • I have recently returned and eveyone told me the Rock is much better but I got there and simply had to do ESB, seemed a shame to go all that way and not have a look.

So I did both the ESB and the Rock and guess what?
I thought the ESB was good but the Rock simply blew me way, it was a highlight of the trip.
