Hi, thanks for your reply, to be honest i did read the first thread and that link, but i just found it a bit hard to understand, I thought the newark liberty international station was at the airport.. so basically, i get on the airtrain at the airport to the station and change trains? I also wasnt sure what NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak was.. and to be honest i still dont.. do i just buy this ticket at the airport?

you know how you have virgin trains or great western trains in this country? different companies running different lines. well, that's all that Amtrak and NJ Transit are, they are different companies, running different lines.

the newark liberty international station isn't AT the airport, it is a little bit out of the airport, hence the airtrain linking you to it. you go from the terminal to the train station, and that costs you $5.50

if you do a quick google search for newark air train, the first link will give you some info on the train.

  • Thanks Marky, unfortunately there are no rooms available for my stay, id need a triple at the beginning of June...never mind eh maybe next year, it does look like a nice place tho.

What do you think of the location Marky? she does give a list of how far places are and how long it is likely to take to get to where you want to go but this means nothing to me as ive never been to NY before.

i love new york with a passion, however, i could never suggest anyone stay in the east village for their first trip.

one reason is that the subway isn't the best around there, and also some people whinge, that it is nowhere near the tourist attractions like times (i'm a tourist trip) square, the empire (my queue is too long and it's cramped up top) state building, etc etc..

tribeca is nice, as there are plenty of subway stops in the area, and there are tourist attractions there.

the east village is great in the evening, and is full of cheap eats and dive bars!

Agreed with Mark thats why i was looking for a bit of real life exploring the things you never really have the time when doing the all action touristy things . Reading that info and knowing the price is about £100 sponduliks a night looks like its running over 80% full occupancy per year . Not a bad little industry for somewhere away from the bright lights .About 250 /300k pa

:rotfl: I couldn't see where your pictures were labelled, but I think I worked out which one was the Lipstick building!

I am not a very visual person, but that one of the wires on the bridge has really made me think "Actually, I would like to go back again and do some of the bits we didn't do last time." I have a bit of a thing about bridges, for some reason: before I had my brain surgery I got it into my head that I had to see the Millau viaduct.

And I KNOW DH would like to see the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, we missed that entirely.

But there will be one condition, if DH wants to take me. I MUST be allowed to go shopping next time! :rotfl:

sorry we never picked up on this before but what a fantastic bridge only over the road too . I am going to keep my eye out for a cheap flight just to see this thing. I love things that are out of the box Thanks savvy sue

Don't be a NY tour guide, will you. :rotfl:

Actually, scratch that, you would be good, where NOT to stay - though people rarely listen...the fools...maybe one day.....

Well I know this is entirely off topic, but here is my ancient and original thread about going to see THAT bridge (the Millau Viaduct, in France) as opposed to the Brooklyn Bridge. :rotfl: Probably worth searching the board for more recent experiences.

To get back ON topic, I have sent the link for Ghoul's photos to a colleague who will really appreciate the photography side of it. One of our managers is in NY now, so no doubt I can get reminiscing again when she gets back next week!

  • I went to NY on the 18th Dec. We found it was cheaper to get theatre tickets from the ticket box in Time Square. You get them on the day you want to go to the theatre and they are up to 50% cheaper. We saw Mama Mia, Hairspray and Little Mermaid, all fantastic shows. Go to the Stardust Diner, the waiters and waitresses sing songs from the shows, its great. It was freezing when we were there -10 but still had full days. Get the Statton Island Ferry which is free to see statue of liberty.
