Most of the time we got the subway, I really got the hang of it and hardly had to ask anyone for help. Only got a cab a few times.
It's the first report that I have done so I hope it's ok and there isn't too many mistakes.
Hope you like it!!New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Trip report - November
Flying with Delta from Manchester airport into JFK, flight departed at 11.55am. We were stuck in traffic on the motorway for a while and started to panic however still managed to check in over 2 hours before.
Flight departed on time unlike the Continental flight to Newark that was about 12/13 hours delayed, felt so sorry for these people I think they had been put into a hotel for the day, so thankful it wasn’t our flight.
Delta was great it was 757 aircraft which has Delta on demand yay! So lots of movies and albums to chose from. They crew were very friendly, always in the cabin offering drinks. Food was fine we had chicken or pasta meal and had a pizza snack just before landing.
We got a cabin into the city, stayed at the New Yorker hotel on 34th street which had an excellent location near Macys, beds were comfy and room large however had a problem when checking – in. I was advised by the not so lovely or polite check-in staff that I had no view which I had payed for and my view was ‘a brick wall’ as the hotel was full. I had payed £100 extra for a bigger room with ‘a view’ so I was obviously not happy however the gentleman who checked us in just kept answering me back no apology. After fighting my corner and being answered back time and time again after about 20mins I was finally offered to see two other rooms which one was Hudson River so picked with that one.
We unpacked and changed then about 6pm headed to Bryant park to have a look at the christmas market then to times square for a look around and went to the new American eagle which had just opened that day- love it. We then went to Macys for a look at there Christmas window displays.... about 9pm we headed to the hotel and stopped off for some dinner at the tick-tock diner as it was right next to the hotel.
On our second day we headed downtown, we had tickets booked for the crown of liberty which I had booked on 4th July (day they were released) booked for 9am and arrived at 8.30pm; we got the 9am ferry and were treated like VIP’s with our red wrist bands on. We went to on the 10am tour, I think as long as you have ticket booked for the day it doesn’t matter which time you go up. There was only the 4 of us that went up at 10am however they still don’t sell any tickets on the day. I think if you’re booked in for 9am and get into museum at say 8.15am they will let you on 8.30 if there’s spaces available. The views of the city from the top were excellent and the climb wasn’t too bad you can just take it at your own pace and the rangers are at the top if you need them. After Liberty we went for lunch at TGI Fridays near the bull which was awful, would not recommend. Would never have thought that an American chain was better in England.
After lunch we taken the subway to Brooklyn and walked over the Brooklyn bridge into NY, we really enjoyed the weather was excellent so sunny. We then went to WTC and went to Century 21 which was not as good as last year we didn’t buy a thing, and then headed for Seaport South Street. Had a look around seaport which we loved there Christmas tree is huge. Had a couple of drinks at the heartland brewery before going back to the hotel and had tea nearby as we were exhausted our feet were killing done so much walking.
On the third day we had a bit of a lie as we were up quite early for liberty the day before. We went to central park west for a walk around and went to Strawberry fields etc Had a walk down to the Lincoln centre for lunch then went to Jersey gardens for the afternoon..... Well I say afternoon we stayed till the shops shut at 9am and got the bus back to the city. We had quite a few bags and very tired so just walked back a few blocks to hotel and ate nearby again.
Day four we went to soho as last year we loved soho, I am a huge sex and the city fan so we stopped off a magnolia bakery, after our cupcakes we taken a cab to Bloomingdales in soho where I got my Uggs then had a walk around. Soho is great! We then got the subway near union square and found a lovely vintage shop where were bought a couple of xmas presents, and went in a couple more shops in that area including TJmaxx but we wasn’t very impressed with it. We were going to go Washington Square Park however it went dark so we just went straight to Union Square. After union square we went to the east village to the Liverpool bar & had Italian for dinner which was lovely.
On our fifth day we went to top of the rock in the morning which I admit is much better than the empire state views then for breakfast at prime burger which we went to last year and loved, its right near st Patricks. It’s been around since the 1930’s and it’s like a proper American diner inside, apparently it was mentioned in breakfast at tiffany’s before it changed its name in 70s. After breakfast we went to 5th avenue, Abercrombie etc New york Libary then to Times Square for some shopping before going back to the hotel to get changed and going to Legends bar for diner and some drinks.
On our final day we went Macys and Bloomingdales for our souvenirs before getting our flight home at 9.50pm from JFK.
I won’t post a full report on my second trip as it will be longer than this one however flown with Delta again- really enjoyed the flight once again. I highly recommend them crew, food, planes, IFE are all excellent. Other things I done were Ellis island- had not been on my two previous visits and I really enjoyed it. Went to seaport again, Soooo Christmassy we had a lovely lunch and tea at a restaurant there, its right opposite the Yankee store. Empire state & sky ride (Rubbish don’t do it, poor quality video) Police museum downtown was enjoyable and only $7. Washington for the day, amazing although only the day we got lots done and well worth it.
Had a lovely time both times, my highlights were:
Seaport south street- sooo Christmassy with there huge Christmas tree
Liberty and Ellis Island- very interesting
Times square- I take it back, I do actually like it now
New York Libary- Beautiful buildingNew York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Thanks for the report.
Glad you had a great time.
I flew to New York with Delta last year and it was excellent!
I too found the subway system easy to use, when getting around town. I don't bother with taxis anymore.0 -
good report thanks what was the LFC bar like ? hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

good report thanks what was the LFC bar like ?
Well we almost walked past it, only for a tiny LFC sticker in the window. At the back of the bar there was a signed shirt and 2 other small pieces of LFC items but that was it. A little disapointing.
We wanted to buy a couple of the NYC LFC t-shirts however we were not able to, apparently its the LFC supporters club members that come into the bar and sell the t-shirts when a match is on so we were not able to buy them from the bar. So basically its only a LFC bar when the match is on which we didnt know. Im sure its a good atmosphere when the match is on though.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

hi all.
off to my second trip to New York in February, cant wait!
last time i flew with Virgin and there transfers from the airport were great but unfortunately my budget cant stretch to Virgin this time.
BA's transfers are through some kind of shuttle which ive read bad reviews about.
there is 3 adults in our party and we will probably have 3 large suitcases.
if we go to the taxi rank will one cab be able to accommodate the 3 of us and all our gear?
thanks0 -
Yup, the taxi's also come in an MPV version which will take you and your luggage easily if a normal taxi can't.
We had one last year and it was fine for 4 of us and 4 large cases.0 -
Yes as Lady S says they can fit upto about 4 large suitcases.
We has 2 very large ones and 2 medium ones- Fitted fine so you wont have any problems with 3 large suitcases + handluggage.
Have a great time its really christmassy now, it snowed for the day when i was there just over a week agoNew York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
