I have just spoken to customer service at booking.com and been told the obvious, this is not illegal and the company has been with them for quite some time. They suggested I send them an email quoting the specific information that I have been given, if only so they can remove this property from their systems.

Markymoo, I can quite do without your self righteous attitude, I did not know at time of booking that apartment rentals were illegal. I did a search for reviews on this place and found plenty, none of which mentioned illegality, obviously. I am now doing what I can to get my deposit back.

I don't have a self righteous attitude, I've posted that as a generic post, to pinpoint the confusion of new york city laws, the fact that apartment rentals are illegal, and overall to HELP people.

I state facts, I'm to the point. This is why I don't post on here anymore, because I have knowledge, I'm happy to share, and people f!!!ing whinge.. I'll delete it, and won't bother in future.

I missed the deleted post but i suspect markymoo has informed you straight that 95% of apartments are not legal and a fair few do not exist at all. If it wasnt for this info you would be non the wiser and may get really stung if you followed through or you gave somebody else duff info.
mark maybe direct and to the point of fact but he also gives very good CORRECT info and has probably forgotten more than i will ever know about NYC . Im not defending him he can do that himself im just giving my opinion to someone new to this place giving out info without the full facts.

Well in his long post he suggested I was depriving a New Yorker of a dwelling, as this place is being rented illegally. I am doing no such thing as I want to cancel if it is illegal and am seeking to do this and get my deposit back.

Got back yesterday on the VS04 flight from JFK. Managed to stay up all day and went to bed at 9.30pm.

Unfortunately a mountain of housework awaits me but I will post a report of our trip as soon as I get a chance. It was AWESOME in every way!

Gawd, throw your teddy out your pram why don't you!

You can come across a bit condescending and offish about things. I have felt it on several occasions and it is clear that others have to. I'm not denying you don't have loads of helpful tips for people, just you can't expect people to fall at your feet if your snappish with them.

I got back yesterday too- managed to stay up till 9pm after being awake 33hours. If people are a little confused as I was only in new york 2 weeks ago I went back to New York on sunday, bit of long story but basically my friend won a holiday to NY and invited me so I was only back a few days ( wasnt able to book any later in month) then I went again.
Had a great tine again and went to Washington for the day which was excellent.

2 trip reports to come very soon........
