As for the hotel I found a direct email address for the hotel and emailed them this afternoon after not having a reply from the people I booked it through. Little did I know that the person I had emailed was the sales director he replied straight away saying that he will do everything in his power to make sure I stay at the hotel when the visa comes through and if I need anymore help please ask him I can't say fairer than that!

Well I've had to postpone my trip till May, I don't know what the weather is like then but thats the best thing I could do, With the airline its cost me an extra £300 but thats not too bad
The hotel has been brilliant the guy I emailed I asked him if I could postpone my stay till May and he said yes no problem! I don't know if it will cost anymore or anything he didn't say so I'm gutted that I'm not going next week but sort of glad I didn't lose out on all the money I paid.

I'm flying on Wednesday arriving at 12.20. I'm about to book Carmel Car Service to take us to our hotel. How long does it take to get through customs/immigration? What time should I ask to be collected?
Many thanks0 -
Thats great steph, that's good they let you changed your flights and £300 isnt bad at all. Sounds like a good hotel you have picked there!
Mumto5, I think it depends how many flights land around the same as yours. At JFK last year we were the only flight in the immigration line and so it was quite quick 10mins wait. This year at JFK a flight from Italy landed before us so they were all already in the queue so we were waiting a bit longer about 25mins. Theres usually quite a few people on the immigration desks though.
Do Carmel car service not check what time your due to land?New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

I don't think Carmel check what time you're due to land, you give them a rough estimate but then you phone them on arrival, once you've cleared customs and immigration.
You'll then have a brief wait, but the reason for asking you to book a time is so that they can roughly schedule their need for drivers, wouldn't you think?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Just got back, wow, what a city, did anyone else suffer with vertigo and motion sickness? I felt like i was on a boat the whole time, kept getting dizzy.
Went to watch Jersey Boys at the August Wilson theatre and it was amazing, also ice skating on central park was excellent.
Couldn't believe how warm it was there, i kept having to take my coat off, defo picked the best weekend weather wise.0 -
Hi
You may remember me from a few months back, I was the niave girl with the tiny budget for a New York Christmas. Well, my partner pulled a load of overtime and we got enough together to book. We are flying with Kuwait on 22 December and staying in the New Yorker until the 29th. Now the tricky bit starts, that I've been looking forward too...where do I start!
There's so much to see and do, and we have so many things we want to do, obviously all the touristy bits, plus some of the art galleries, plus shopping, plus cheesecake, muffins, burgers the size of your head... I've read a few trip reports here and on trip advisor, and I'm completely overwhelmed. I have no idea where to start with planning an itinery or restaurant choices or anything. Please, please, can someone give me some tips before my brain explodes from too many cheesecake choices!

Well I cant eat cheesecake but my top 5 suggestions are:
Ice skating (at this time of year) in central park
Top of the rock
Staten island ferry (but wrap up warm)
Upper East side for a wander round/gawp at the shops/people
And north sq restaurant for dinner one night (near washington sq)
A bit 'regular' NY (Marky wouldnt like it) but it gives you a few places to start
