    Hi all,

I am about to spend my last day in NYC (flew out on Monday morning from Manchester via Amsterdam) and coming home on the 22:10 on Saturday.

A couple of things I have learnt (these are personal experiences).

We are staying in Chinatown (Hotel 91). The hotel is basic but the bed is great (I travel a lot for my job and hardly ever have a good nights sleep in a hotel). The area is not the best and can seem a bit quiet at 11pm in the evening - especially at East Broadways subway station, so if you are a nervous person then I suggest staying closer to town.

Le Parker Meridien's Burger Joint - we had one of these the other day. For 2 of us it cost around $30 and tbh it was very poor - maybe my expectations were too high?. We also got in at a good time as the time we left the queue was massive.

On Tuesday we took a tour with onboardtours.com and the guide Tyler was nice and knew quite a bit about the city. Some people asked him questions but he could not answer them - but overall it was interesting and worth the money as we saw all the main tourist spots and took a ride on the ferry.

In the evening we went to a Chinese restaurant (sorry, can't remember the name, but it was up Mott Street) and was excellent - had crispy beef in Orange (something like that anyway) and for 2 of us it came to about $50 - portions were massive.

As regards to "doing the tourist thing" we went for a walk in Central park which was nice, went to watch Wicked (tickets were $75 each from the box office). Went to see Avenue Q - give this a BIG miss. Great idea, but delivery was poor. We went to New Jersey Gardens today and bought quite a bit. Good sales in DKNY and Guess shops. Wife got a couple of pairs of new trainers in the Adidas shops (buy 1 and get 2nd half price on a lot of things). Also went to Century 21 yesterday and was a bit disappointed but got a pair of Levis for $19.99 and a Calvin Klein top for $15.99. The CK underwear (mens) is $9.99 each (it is cheaper than anywhere I have seen so far). We also when to TOTR and the views were great - took loads of pictures. I was really surprised how fast the lift went up/down without any rattle.

For the shopoholics - Macy's have a big sale on at the moment (you also get 10% of from "being out of town on top of their current sale) and bought a couple of tops.

We tried to get into Carmine's tonight but did not fancy waiting 2.5 hrs so we went to TGI's instead - big mistake. Food cost a fortune (so did the beer) and we wished we went back to Chinatown - ah well....Maybe try Carmine's for lunch tomorrow instead

We are going to try and go ice skating tomorrow (tried tonight, but queues were massive!) and maybe travel in a horse and cart around central station, and of course take a ride in a yellow taxi.

Conclusion - we think 5 days is a bit too long (3 being better for us). Feet/legs are tired after many miles of walking :j and we are surprised on the lack (yes I mean lack) of food we actually ate.

I do not want to put anyone off going to NYC - it is a great place to visit. For us, we think London as slightly more to offer the tourist, but it was great to visit a place without the kids :p and we will come back on 5 years or so just to see the progress on the ground where the twin towers stood.

Macy's is similar to DFS and land of leather, ie they've always got a big sale on!!

After an amazing time in New York this summer we're wanting to go again next summer.

This time though we're wanting to get a true New Yorker feel of it and wanting to stay in Williamsburg which was one of our favourite places we visited this year.

Does anyone know of any good places where we can rent an apartment near the Bedford Avenue area for 5-7 nights?

I've tried searching online but not had much joy.

    Thanks.

I booked my apartment on booking.com, so will ask them about it.
