Cheers for the hint about the location of Shake Shack - I read the positive comments about it earlier in the thread but hadn't checked my map. The frozen custard has me intrigued but the queues might be a bit offputting.

I stumbled across shake shack behind the museum natural history, which is up by central park, on a warm sunday afternoon and we had our food in our hands with in 25mins, remember the food is cooked fresh, if you avoid the obvious times you will be fine.

    adding to phatbear's advice:
be warned that the burgers are a bit small (about the size of the £1 mcdonald's burger), so you might as well get 2 while queueing. The fries are great as well. We shared a concrete and loved it - don't remember the flavour, but I asked the sales assistant for a suggestion.

For great cheesecake go to Roccos on Bleeker Street, a real italian pastry shop that does fabulous cakes, desserts, cookies and marvellous espressos. The italian ricotta cheesecake is incredible

I shall definitely add that to my list of places to visit when I'm there next year.

I had cheesy chips to take out one drunken stumble back to my hotel from the subway - lush :D:D:D

I will be going back when I'm over in May to try out the frozen custard!

We went to see the Lion King at the Minskoff last year and left in the interval along with many other people. Maybe we were unlucky but they had what must have been the worst child actor in the universe playing Simba. Also got peed off by people chatting on their mobiles all around us. Great theatre though - very easy to find, right on Times Square.

    How does this sound:

    August 2nd - August 8th 2010 = 6 nights

    FLIGHT: £525 return per person
HOTEL: £350 per person (cosmopolitan hotel in soho)

    TOTAL: £875 per person

It's cheaper than I thought, and it looks quite good so may book it.
